The fact that company claims the beer is "colder" than anything is really silly.
What if I stored a 6 pack of coors light in my cupboards? Would it be cold then? This type of advertising is geared towards the lowest common denominator in terms of intelligence.

I'm boycotting Coors.

Not because of the advertising (maybe Torontonian's are colder than those west-coast hippies?), but because they waste all that fine Moravian barley. :D

Again Coors fails with the content.

Too bad there wasn't more media coverage on this. If we could get all of Toronto, or even better, Ontario, to boycott Coors light, they'd realize just how big a market this is, and think twice about slagging it again.

I love the irony. Up tight Torontonians get upset about the billboard, proving its point.

They're just still upset about their garbage pile up.

The only uptight people I ever meet in Toronto are the suburbinites who spend 2 or 3 hours a day commuting.

As for garbage pile ups...bring it back on...I hardly noticed it. The only piles of garbage I saw were the strikers and politicians. Private pick up actually became cheaper than the city service.

Oh, I agree that Torontians aren't actually uptight (I do live downtown Toronto), I just found it funny that people complained about it.

I also agree on the garbage strike. My condo had private collection and all the businesses I had to walk by on my way to work seemed to be emptying out the garbages on the street in front of their stores. The longer it lasted, the more money we would have saved as taxpayers. I did notice the garbage being worse as I left downtown though.

I'm not sure being cold and being uptight are exactly the same thing though.

But anyway, if this ad is offensive it's only because of just how not funny or clever it is. But then, none of the "Colder than" billboards I have seen are shining examples of great wit.

There's one on Queen St that reads: "Colder than your girlfriend if she knew you were here." It's in front of a 711 parking lot. I guess women hate it when their boyfriends shop at 711. I did not know that.

There's another one that's something like "Colder than your girlfriend's roommate (yes there's a story there)" I couldn't be less intrigued.

How any of these exercises in banality are meant to get people to purchase Coors Light I'll never know.

I think this is proof that advertisers have all completely run out of good ideas and are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Or why else would Telus have billboards with pictures of leaping lambs on them that say: "Get a jump on life with web to go."

I'm embarrassed just readings ads like that--I can't imagine how the ad agency felt when they were pitching them.
