MiniBrew 6.5 gallon conical

Post by thekulman »

Just made my first batch of beer with my new plastic conical. Had trouble dumping the trub/yeast from the cone. Did it several times over several days but there was always some left. I was planning to pour straight into the keg from the bottom valve but ended up having to syphon my beer into the keg to avoid dumping the last of the yeast into the keg. Anyone use a conical and have any tips?

No unfortunately, too expensive to import. I actually inquired about any Canadian suppliers from the minibrew.com website and they responded "just buy them from our web store".

Nice guys eh?

In my stainless steel conical, there is a top valve for transferring beer, the bottom valve is for trub and yeast. Never had an issue with yeast transferring with the beer.

Maybe with yours, you should just keep and eye on it, and stop the transfer before it the yeast hits the valve?

Hi George;

Problem it that when I dump trub and yeast a few times from the bottom valve I find that there is a space (ie. wasted beer) lower then the transfer valve port and I don't want to waste that beer so I ended up using my auto siphon. My version dosen't have a movable racking arm inside. I "thought" that if I dumped from the bottom valve enough all the yeast would be gone and I could keg from there. But because of the whirlpool action that occurs when I open the bottom valve I waste beer when dumping yeast and if I was to dump enough to remove all the yeast I would waste 4 l or so of beer.

Any ideas?

Well, 4l is a LOT of beer in a 7 gal conical. Sounds like a design flaw...

The only thing I can suggest is not to dump the trub and yeast until AFTER the transfer.

I dunno.

Cheers
