Had the Innis & Gunn Rum Cask, and it did not taste like it had been aged in the - oh never mind. It was like Old Ale for dummies, really decent!! I totally fucked on getting the Canadian Cask one, I missed that.

Plus the Ola Dubh 12, now, YUM. I'm getting through one of my 12-packs at a furious pace... nice stuff.

I now need a walk. But I deserve some beer after dealing with * fliches involuntarily * family in Eastern Ontario for a few days...

Who's heading to the pubs the next few days (boxing week?)

Over the past couple of days I've enjoyed some Rogue Yellow Snow, ST Creme Brulee, Aventinus, Aventinus Eisbock (2008 & 2009), a growler of Grand River Galt Knife, a growler of Grand River Pumpkin and currently sipping a leftover Upper Canada Lager that I kept in the fridge for non beer geeks visiting over the holidays.

had my last BLack Oak Oaktoberfest, a Mike Duggan 9, Corne Du Diable, and a Brewdog Punk IPA tonight. Expected a little more from the Punk.

On holidays in New York, had some good ones, but some bad ones too. The best (so far) are Baladin Mara (not sure of the second name) from Italy, with a very interesting heather-like accent which the server told me is myrhh. Also, a pilsener stored in oak barrels also from Italy, very good, like a cross between fresh Urquell and Innis & Gunn. Heavily hopped Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter on cask was a stunner, the hop rate struck me as achieving the very high levels you read about in the 1800's books. Smuttynose IPA, with its balanced notes of orange rind, mint and lemon against a succulent maltiness, is about the best APA there is IMO. A nod also to Chelsea Autumn with its reflective malty notes, a Burton-style beer I think - pre-Burton IPA that is.

The bad ones generally seemed off (oxidized or spoiled in some way) so it wouldn't be fair to the brewers to mention them. Most places in town serve in flights which facilitates trying different things.

Gary

NB. All the above were sampled on draft or cask.

Shared a few bottles with Sprague this afternoon lots of hoppy goodness

Shorts Huma Lupalicious
Green Flash IPA
Bell's Two Hearted

Bell's is probably the most balanced of the three, though the Shorts and Green Flash were no unidimensional beer either.

I like the Humbug a lot. I don't like that we get so little of it.

Just had 2 six packs delivered today. Quite a nice treat, if I do say so myself.

Had this at Only Cafe a week ago. It's a few bucks more than they normally charge for Rochefort, so about ten with taxes in. Tasty enough.

They also have St. Bernardus Wit!! Very good stuff yesterday with brunch.

Can of Denison's, which was fresh and malty, nice clove, subtle banana.

Muskoka Lager, which may become my pizza beer (when I don't have Grand River).

I've always wondered how that Faxe 10% pairs with Pizza Derek. So, how is it?
