Split Batch Ideas

Post by cannondale »

For 10 gallon or larger batches split into two (or more) fermentors, what are some ideas you have come up with?

Yesterday I brewed a wheat base and split it two ways. One half got WB-06 to make a hefeweizen, the other half got US-05 and will get amarillo in secondary to make an american wheat.

Up next will be a DIPA, with one half getting S-04, the other half getting US-05. They will also likely get different dry hops (centennial with the S-04 and cascade with the US-05).

Any other experience or ideas on either getting two quite different styles of finished beer from a common wort? Or even interesting ideas in terms of comparing yeast strains, or dry hopped vs. not dry hopped, etc.?
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Hot or cold steep some darker grains and add to one half.
Run off half and chill, boil second half longer with more hops/herbs.
