Pike XXXXX Extra Stout - I think this is my new 'go-to' stout, now that it's fresh and not exploding everytime a cap is popped.

I was mostly asking because I am actually surprised the LCBO hasn't gotten on this one yet, but perhaps these is no agent here? I'll look into it.

This is the first batch of Pike that hasn't actually exploded or soured; I was hesitant to splash the cash again, but the past 12 bottles I've had have been superb, and fresh!

I love this beer. When I had this, it was the best stout I've ever had at the time (though I hadn't had any imperial stouts before, so maybe my perspective was warped). I was at the Pike Place brewpub in Seattle and a guy walked up to the bar and asked for a Guinness. The bartender said they only have Pike beers, but they do have a stout and gave him a sample. The guy took one sip, made a funny face, then ordered "whatever is lightest". I immediately ordered the stout.

This 2nd bottle tonight is so wonderfully bitter and dry.

Yukon Lead Dog Ale, thanks to BA's CanBIF 6. Nice stuff. I really wish there were more English or American strong ales around. Once we get some good Ontario IPAs out and everyone gets their hop fix, can we work on that strong ale category?

Speaking of go-to stouts, I think Aphrodite is it for me. Whether I have to bring it back or if it goes General List, I could pretty much open one of those any day...

Now savoring a 250ml bottle of Grolsh Lemon 2.5%, easily the most fey beer I've ever encountered with its trifling 6.25 mls of alcohol, and it's basically a nice unchallenging Shandy.

Now, why does Grolsh get a 'free pass' with open six-packs that have twist caps? I thought this was a guarantee for mass-extinction of Ontario beer drinkers. At least that's why DDC products are put under a microsope and given a cavity search (the caps don't even twist off on those... you ever tried??)

Probably because it's from SABMiller and doesn't have to jump through hoops to get into the LCBO. Someone's getting paid off high up.

Last night it was my last Okocim Baltic porter, best Before 10/10/06.

2 years ago it was tasting a little oxidized (cardboard-like) and I almost dumped the last few. Fortunately I didn't. That oxidation developed into a phenominal flavour, almost port-like. A smooth, easy drinker.

Last time I was at Pike some drunken kraut tourist got loaded and fell off his stool. He started screaming at the bartender in german when he was cut off. It was hilarious!

Radeberger Pilsener. Exactly 2 months from packaging, and tasting fresh and oaty with a complex bitterness. Very high quality.

Yes, the answer was in the question. LCBO deep-throats their big business buddies, and then swallows it.

Now enjoying a Fantome Chocolat, which is by far the most intensely chocolate-tasting Saison I have tried today. Good stuff.
