Mill Street Ginger Beer

Post by mabel »

Had their new (alcoholic) ginger beer on tap at the brewpub yesterday. Just as the waiter promised, it was a "kick in the mouth" in terms of being super gingery... Anyone else tried it yet?

Crap - I was there last night and didn't even know about this!

Granted the place was absolutely rammed with a pre-show drink up for The Specials, so I wasn't there to savour and rate, just to down a few pints. So I just stuck with the cask, which was a nice dry-hopped blend of the Organic Lager and Pilsner - very fresh, fruity and floral/herbal, lovely stuff!

Yeah, so that's annoying. I asked if they were still doing casks on Fridays and the guy said no, the brewers had stopped doing it but were going to try to start again soon. He didn't say the NEXT DAY! lol

Heh. I'm not sure if it was intended to be a restart to the weekly thing, or if it was just a one-off. Worth trying for anyone who might be in the area this weekend, though.

My pint grew on me tonight. The ginger is definitely strong, but the pale malts balance it nicely. I'd rather drink this than the Hitachino, at least in warmer weather. Just as I was starting to give up (again) on Mill Street...

And the cask for me was a wet hopped pilsner. The hops were apparently grown in the brewers backyard.

That's how the cask I tried on Friday was described to me (I mistakenly typed dry-hopped above), although as I noted, it was apparently a blend of Pilsner and Organic Lager. I expect that's probably what you were served as well - the Friday casks at Mill St. tend to last through the weekend.

Looks like this beer may be showing up at Chancey's very soon, so I look forward to actually getting to try it.

I heard that Niagara's Best had a ginger beer. Did you get a chance to sample it?

Had a couple pints of the Mill St. Ginger today at lunch. Lovely beer, enjoyed it tremendously, moreso than the (decent) Hitachino. I find many spice/herb/veg. beers aren't all that sessionable, but this one goes down really nicely. Added it to RB as well...
