Ola Dubh 40 in the T-dot?
I don't think the OD-40 is any beer worth giving up your normal sexuality for, but it is pretty decent. No disrespect to penis devotees (or communists) which I know many of you bartowellers are!SteelbackGuy wrote: One more thing I should mention is that this year, the 40 will be reserved for those belonging to the "esoteric order of penis lovers". Strange I know, but that's the LCBO.

That's exactly what I mean, but this becomes a little bit of an excuse to deny most of the Province with NEARLY the same level or service. Which ain't the way it should be. How dare they monopolize the whole territory as a social interest, and then whenever it suits them to save money they cut corners and ignore whole cities as if they were a private chain making these hard-nosed 'mercenary' decisions?JerCraigs wrote:Not sure what you mean by that, but it makes sense that the largest population base, with close proximity to the delivery infrastructure would get stuff, no?Belgian wrote:Much as this city has its problems, the LCBO sure kisses Toronto's ass with product selection.
Smaller cities have LC stores that are absolutely pathetic, just empty, anemic and without any system of improvement. The LC cannot do this simply on the motivation of maximum yield, Jerermy because this abuses their privileged position. It does abuse the hell out of having no competition, despite the very great political obligation that comes with an iron-fisted monopoly. For all their power and control, they must give something back, even if it costs a little to do so (that's almost a joke because they are swimming in absurd amounts of profit.)
Can't have it both ways.

I wasn't going to bite because sometimes I find it better to bang my head against the wall, by the way it feels really good when you stop.
Anyways Belgian I agree. I can understand TO getting the lionshare of product because it is big and sprawly and I can see why really small towns or northern communities miss out because there is no demand for exclusive releases, doesn't excuse it but I understand.
But, take this DDC release. Draw a line from Oakville thru Guelph thru K-W to London and no store east of this line, save Grimsby(30-40 bottles) received any of the 4 brands of the 5000 or so available of each type. Sure maybe some parts of Hamilton are dodgy but Ancaster( AA store)? Burlington? I can buy their Rosee D'Hibiscus but not the new ones but there are 4 stores in the KW & Guelph area that do. I could even walk to TBS near me and get any of the Unibroue offerings.
I'm not really ranting I just don't understand.
And The Ola Dubh was available in Hamilton and I did manage to grab some OD 12. The OD 40 was in and gone while I blinked, Hamilton? Dodgy? Bah Humbug!
It did sell out though. I bought 3 bottles in total (one for myself, one for my dad at father's day and one as a gift), but wouldn't likely buy any more for a while. I would be lots of the OD 12 though.Gedge wrote:Last time I was at Cooper St. (a couple of weeks ago). There was a bunch (at least a box) of the OD 40. I wonder how much demand there was in T.O. for an $18 beer after the initial frenzy?
