If anyone is interested here, I'm setting up an order with the Canadian retailer of The Barley Crusher to get a group order at a good rate on the SOB list. We have maybe 12 people who are interested and I figured I'd let anyone here know who wanted in. If you are in the GTA, Hamilton or KW area, the cost is $150 CDN (I'm getting them sent to me and will distribute afterwards, either pickup, dropoff or through other members in on the order). We're looking at the 7 lb hopper model, which would run close to $180 if you bought it alone. PM me with your email address if you are interested and I'll send you the information. I'd like to finalize it by the morning of Thursday, Sept 30th.

that's pretty kickass. i love my barleycrusher and it's been going strong for the last 4.5 years. great customer service too, should you ever need it.

for anyone on the fence about buying their first mill or upgrading from a corona, just do it. we fought with a corona for a long time and i debated whether or not to upgrade, and i can easily say it was one of the best brewing investments i ever made. it blows through grain far faster than a corona and with an infinitely better crush. our efficiency jumped up 15% just changing mills, which equates to tons of cost savings in every batch. other pros include better shelf life of uncrushed grain and the ability to buy in bulk, both saving money too. it's a must for any all-grain brewer and nearly so for partial mashers.

+1

Worth every penny. I use a power drill with mine and can mow through 25+ lbs of grain for 10 gallon batches in minutes.

I also recently dialed it over to 1 o'clock and have seen a moderate increase in mash efficiency.

I assume you are looking at the 7 lb hopper version, but in case you were looking at the 15, it really isnt necessary. Reloading the hopper is not an issue at all.

I'm hoping they're in before the Nov 6th event. Now what to do about the bags of grain that are calling my name each night
Crush, crush, crush!

Man.. sorry I missed this. I've gone to AG now, and wish I had one. I'll wait and see if another buy happens on SOB.

Hey there,
I bought mine and got it a couple weeks before the bulk buy. And you know what? I don't really mind. Sure, they did an awesome job and got the price down substantially. But I'm glad I have my BC and I don't have any regrets. You might find it's worth it to get one regardless. Besides, participate in one SOB bulk grain buy, and you're ahead of the game!

My two cents. Hope to see you at L2B!
Cheers
Roger

Wish I could come, but super busy and I live 2.5 hours north of TO. I had a friend mill my first batch of grain for me using his Barley Crusher.. thing was amazing. Hit 76% efficiency my first try! I have contacted the person on the website to enquire about cost.

Cheers

Does the shipping and handling include duty?

I don't think there is any duty since it is made in the US. I think you can expect to pay HST when it crosses the border. The manufacturer also uses USPS (not a courier service) so there aren't any brokerage fees which can be a PITA depending on the company.

When we did the order there were about 50, so he was a little backed up production wise, it took about 3 weeks. I'd expect about 2 weeks. If you get in touch with Randy the manufacturer by email, don't be discouraged if you don't hear from him for a few days, he goes at his own pace, email-wise.
