Buying single bottles

Pretty sure I saw signs made up at the Rideau/King Edward store in Ottawa a few weeks ago saying that even the open packs couldn't be broken up. I seem to recall seeing a sign hanging directly under some Netherworld sixes, for example.

Yea I have seen something similar at the same location. Usually it is on the paper tag for each item that is on the shelf that itentifies the product, and someone has hand written in pen "no singles". Usually it is on the more expensive 6 packs, like Dead Guy and Brooklyn Lager. The thing I don't get, is if there is that much of a market for people wanting to buy single bottles of those products, to the point where they have to make-up signs, why not take a few six packs, remove the bottles and put them with the single beer bottles for sale?

I took this at Summerhill ages ago, but I'm pretty sure they're still there around all the open-top 6 pack carriers like Rogue and Anchor Steam, etc.

My experiences reflect those who have said that the policy on whether or not you're allowed to break six packs seems to be at the discretion of each store, and likely even depends on the whims of any given LCBO employee within any given store.

That said, it seems to me like it would be more in keeping with LCBO social responsibility guidelines not to force you to buy six of something you only want one of.

I really don't see a problem with breaking 6's. Charge a small premium on a single bottle like most bottleshops do and just be done with it.

The only customers I give a hard time to is most of them since I love them all so much. Especially the annoying ones. And there aren't ANY of those. Ever. Seriously. They make my day.

Well I mostly visit the Masonville LCBO because it's up there with other shopping I have to do, and quite frankly they have a very good selection. I live near Richmond and Oxford and it's fairly close. There is a tall guy with short blonde hair and is a bit chubby who is very helpful up there, nice guy.

Instead of the Masonville LC/Loblaws/Fanshawe Canadian Tire, maybe I should switch to the Argyle LC/Can Tire/Superstore?

In other random talk about LCBO people, the woman who works the mornings at York and Ridout has a beard (No, I am not kidding, she has whiskers several inches long), and there is a very pleasant chap working the mornings at the Whiteoaks location. I hear the Argyle Mall location has a problem employee, but I haven't been out there in years.

In the general theme of singles; I have passed on beers before because they were in a 6 pack and I didn't want to spend about $12 on something I may not like, but I'd buy a single bottle of damn near anything I haven't had before. Wish they'd allow more singles of closed packs.

Switching to my store means that you have to shop with the breakfast club, pay with pennies and nickles, and you can only buy a full size bottle on "cheque day" when welfare comes out. Taxpayers dollars hard at work!

Heh I was in the York/Ridout LCBO at about 9:50am on the way to work last week and the woman in front of me bought a 40 of Vodka that went directly into her purse. Her rapport with the bearded lady made me think this was a regular thing.

It's the LCBO. Some stores and some employees are better than others, but for the most part you need to expect a level of service somewhere between poor and marginal. Set the bar any higher and you set yourself up for disappointment.

I actually like my local up on Bayfield Street. All of the employees I've dealt with there are helpful, and the manager is a decent guy too.

Come on. I think he means if you don't expect all LC stores to be like your favorite stores, you will not get in a twist over it.

Because those really, really bad employees are the worst people I've met in any large retail chain. Their carelessness and bravado can be stunning.
