Torpedo makes a great, inadvertent point - more provocative labeling will drive certain people away from alcohol if they get offended by the names and graphics. Good on them I say.

It all sounds very Socialistically Responsible to me! Bring on the scary brands....

We won't want to offend anyone.

So we allow this shit to happen.

We don't want to offend anyone.....

So we allow illegal migrants access to our country, claim "refugee status" and abuse our system and waste our tax dollars endlessly.

We don't want to offend anyone.....

So we won't call Honour Killings and Female Genital Mutilation barbaric...rather we prefer to call them "unacceptable"

We don't want to offend anyone.....

So we allow people from other countries to access our Health Care System, even if they are here illegally.

We don't want to offend anyone.....

So we allow people to stay on welfare their entire lives, not even once working for a dime, all the while we pay for that wage, and the cycle is allowed to continue. We actually have "Welfare families" in this country, which, generation by generation, abuse the system cause they don't want to work.

We don't want to offend anyone.......

So we give 900 Million dollars to Haiti.........and billions elsewhere, meanwhile we have homeless and jobless country wide.......but we can't take care of them.

We don't want to offend anyone.......

I can go on and on........the while mindset has to change, this isn't just about beer selection and names and such. It is systemic and is a larger problem at a national level. But all we worry about here is beer selection.............ha!
Nice Rant! Perhaps the reason what we worry about here is the beer selection is because...this is a beer site. Just a thought. Nobody is obligated to dissect their political views here and the site probably provides a nice temporary refuge from such things.

Well, it was less of a rant and more of trying to make a point. I don't necessarily believe each of those points, but they happen and thety are issues to someone out there. The point being that our country is mired in
political correctness and even at a national level, we always worry about "not offending anyone". So it is no surprise that attitude is apparent with the Social Responsibility crew as well.
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!

Fine...whatever. As for your concerns about political correctness and the unwillingness to offend, how's this: You aren't the first knuckle dragging head scratcher to posit these "ideas" and if anyone wants further s##t from you, they can just pinch your head.

Hopefully that was politically uncorrect enough for you.

You can also, Layton notes, special-order alcohols at the LCBO that have been banned from shelves; though the one-case minimum makes getting your hands on a bottle of something like Crystal Skull kind of unfeasible
Yes, I have special ordered alcohols before. The alcohols arrived, I did not get a call like I was supposed to, but still got some set of the alcohols set aside. I do admit though, that I was unaware that you could still do this with alcohols which were not approved by the LCBO or Social Responsibility. You don't even have to buy the whole case of alcohols, just as much alcohols as you can handle at one time.
so what, we can special order a case of Delirium Tremens? As much as I wish that was true, I doubt that is the case. Would "LOVE" to be proven wrong.

This again feels like 1 step forward 2 steps back for LCBO.

Excellent. Though I take umbrage with the needless personal attack. Thanks all the same though.

Have you tried? You can submit a request for anything you want. As long as the brewery is willing to ship it you can get it. They may come back and say you have to buy a skid, or its $20 a bottle for a case, but you'll probably get a reply.

I submitted a bunch of requests a while back and gave up because they shipping costs were just too high for my liking unless there was a larger order (eg. Bartowel, or a rep arranging it). Is there an agent bringing in Delerium still?

As I vaguely remember and have probably mentioned before, I had a job where I was required to criss-cross NA and sell beer packaging for 4 years going to every macro, micro and brewpub. I experienced at the very minimum, 100 beers similar or clones to arrogant bastard in style and flavour. They are made by passionate brewers in almost every state with great malt body and massive hopping of many flavours. Spectacular beers but nothing comes close to the reach and effect of Arrogant. Belgian is definitely in an impact business - perceived or sold attitude and quality. 8)

I've made a special request a couple times too. This was a few years ago though. The first time was for an Irish beer w/o global distribution, later they got a Canadian distributor so I made the request again. Both times I was told the brewery wouldn't sell it on such a limited quantity (I think it was a case). Don't know how much shipping would have been, but I remember thinking it'd be nuts, I just wanted to see what it would actually end up costing.

Anyways, requesting Smash Bomb would probably get a better response I think.

I would like to try ordering a case of Delirium Tremens. Judging by these responses, the shipping will be very much cost prohibitive.

It's just annoying for LCBO to ban DT when SAQ in Quebec sells it as a general release product available year round.

The Beer Store sells DT in kegs, hence there're a handful of bars in Toronto that serves it on tap.

btw, I emailed LCBO, filed a complaint in regards to Smashbomb/SR.

Don't think we're going to find any help for micros at the federal level . . .

Huh? I am?? Well gee shucks.

Still, let's put graphics of scary demons and horned creatures on EVERY Ontario beer, until the LCBO relents to the forces of pure evil...

Sorry, Belgian. Aren't you the marketer in the crowd or do I have you confused with others in the mob.?
