Orval clone, need sub for Caramunich

Post by elproducto »

Planning on an Orval clone, using JZ's recipe from BCS, using Wyeast 3789 yeast.
Can't seem to find Caramunich, can I just sub Crystal 60?

I've ordered it from Randy in Brampton.

I think it's breadier, with less caramel sweetness. I'd probably go with crystal 30/40 but reduce the amount, then subsitute a bit of regular munich for the base malt.

After I posted, I noticed he had it. I really don't want to place an order for one grain, and I'd like to brew this w/e. Maybe I'll make a sub like you suggested in order to min. the sweetness.
