Trainwreck Strong Ale

Post by The Mick »

Has anyone else tried this? Pretty decent offering. 6.7% abv, around 60 IBUs and a nice flavour and finish. Very cloudy to the point where you can't see through the glass with a generously frothy head. Lots of hops on the nose and lots of bitterness on the palate; resin and citrus tones standout the most with a strong malty backbone. Caramel maybe? The finish is quite bitter as well and lingers very nicely.

Im not the most accomplished critic of brews, but I was still pleasantly surprised with this. Will definitely be looking for more, but I think it may only be available on tap right now as per the 'tender who served me. Either way, it was one of the better beers I've had that's come out of Ontario.

Forgot to mention, but it's from the Gananoque Brewing Co.

Gananoque is just east of Kingston on the St. Lawrence. Nice little town. Got a casino.

Niagara's Best contract brew apparently.

The server wasn't sure of all the details, but he said the company was partnered with another brewery until it can open its own facility. He wasn't too sure of the brewery but I got hm to narrow it down to either Muskoka, Niagra's Best or Great Lakes. Soooo, it's coming out of one of those breweries, but under the GBC name.

Apparently is done by the guys from taps brewing in niagara falls. Very interesting. I wonder why they just wouldnt keep to one brand though. they now have 3? seems a little excessive.

They had 2 under the Gananoque name at the Pub i was at. The Trainwreck and a lager called Naughty Otter, which was good, but it was the Trainwreck that I found to be impressive. The Otter was just a lawn mowing beer or something you would drink on the river or out on the course. Don't know about a third they only had those two at the Pub.

I believe the martins own taps and niagaras best. I just assume it would be the same family, or perhaps a cousin of theres that started this brewery.

THe Martins are contract brewing the Gananoque beers for that company until they get brew facilities set up in Gananoque 18 months from now. I suspect Taps are selling their spare capacity. Got a brew you want contracted?
