Founder's Porter.

Nice to be drinking a world beater after working my way through some of the blander Ontario options gumming up my cellar.

Plus I needed something exquisite to celebrate the end of the NFL lockout.

Tonight at Piece Brewery & Pizzeria and The Map Room:

Piece Dysfunctionale (draught) - one of the best IPAs that I've had in a long time. Very citric, oily, and floral, lots of passion and tropical fruit (pineapple), bone dry/chalky finish with boatloads of pine and resin on the cough. Big hop burps.

Piece Flat Iron Stout (draught) - roasty as hell, but way too malt forward (almost cloying) for my liking. Low hops and English in style. Disappointing.

Three Floyds Dreadnaught DIPA (draught) - speaks for itself. :o

Rogue Morimoto Imperial Pilsner (draught) - biscuit, grain, hay-like funk, floral and fruity hops, lemony and astringent bitterness that intensifies as the beer warms. Satisfying.

Half Acre Daisy Cutter (can) - world class session APA, more complex malt profile (nutty, caramelly) than I expected. Worth seeking out.

Founders Double Trouble. Pretty good, not quite the punch I was expecting from a Doublbe IPA.

Smuttynose Big A IPA. Wow what a punch, this is absolutely delicious.

Eggenberg Urbock 23º / exp 04/11 - for a lager it sure tastes almost like a light barley wine. It's a great beer aged.

St Bernardus 12 / exp precisely 23.05.2010. Proof you should always let sleeping St Bernards lie... tastes wonderful, still very full but more wine-like than it used to be after 6 years' maturity. It is now emulating the world-beater Westy 12 the recipe is modeled after. Wow, glad I stashed away a few spares.

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout 2009 and Hopslam 2011.

Cant think of a better way to celebrate a great hockey win around a fire. The stout tastes like it hasn't aged a day and the hopslam was spot on!

Wish I had more of each... Nice setup for my friday tasting !

The kolsch-style beer from Beau's, on draft. Exemplary brewing, using one of the sub-sets of German hop tastes - I was in Germany at the end of last year and remember this precise taste. Hayfields and loamy earth, a rural, natural taste - but I can't accustom to it.

Pretty much sums up why I personally can't stand this beer.

Warming up a fresh Stonehammer Dark and will likely follow that with a Smash Bomb. Between my girlfriends' site visits that made her pass through Barrie (Flying Monkeys), Guelph (F&M/Wellington), and another one tomorrow for Niagara (Taps)... I am one spoiled son of a bitch when it comes to brewery-fresh beers this week.
