Rogue Yella snow

Rougue Yellow Snow Ale

22oz. bomber with the signature painted label. The pour revealed an interesting clouded golden-orange ale with a nice 1 finger tight fluffy cap and tiny spiraling bubbled carbonation. The nose is a pleasant fragrant hop bouquet..floral, juniper, fruity, with a sweet undertone.( I’m reminded of anchor liberty here) Front side is a mellow blast of sweet malts and fruity/floral hops in almost perfect balance...peaches and pine, apricots and sweet dough...wonderful layered tastes...medium bodied, silky with some substantial malts...moderate finish where the creamy-peach-doughy impression gives way to a slow metallic drying with a fruity very drinkable character. I like this better than Anchor Liberty. It would be my standard session ale if it were available here...recommened for those who like a fruit character in an aromatic ale.

I want more dammit!!! ;-)

Puzzled by your post...what do you mean by "if it were available here"? It is available here albeit for only the next few months but with a 10 month shelf life you can always get out there and buy a couple of dozen cases. The stores at Highland Rd. Plaza and Stanley Park Plaza in Kitchener both have stock currently.

I've never tasted this beer. Is it as hoppy as Anchor Liberty?

Anchor Liberty is apparently 45 IBU's while Yellow Snow is 34.

Availability was poor this year for me because I wasn't here in the winter to buy it up within the first month of it's release.....the north york store had some show up out of nowhere this fall so NY Sammy grabbed a couple for me. Rogue sells out fast (as did the choclate stout). I mean I wish it was available all year long....as the liberty ale seemed to be.....there are still stocks of Liberty around (thank god)...because I go through it....these are standard session ales...I use them up 8)

BTW I went to Highland RD store to do exactly as you proposed yesterday ( the web site sais they had 72 bottles) and there was no winter release stuff on the shelves at all....the "beer guy" told me he had no idea where the beer I was asking for was and he was unaware it would be here until Dec....what gives....I'll try Stanley Park store today to see if I get the same reaction.....I see stock levels on the LCBO product DB but nothing on the shelves.....will try again today at a different locale where the DB says there is stock.

The hopping is fragrant and subdued but the malt is layered and quite tasty...gives you a flavorful, mellow rounded effect to the ale...very drinkable...a different approach than Liberty....although I love liberty for it's crisp hoppyness.

Spoke to the manager of the Highland Rd. store today and he has stock of Rogue Yellow Snow (he was looking at the product as I was speaking to him) and he says their winter beers are on display....don't know what to think here but you must have been speaking to brain-damaged employee.

If it appeared (winter realeses as per numbers in their DB)...it was immediately after I left at 3 PM sunday..I'm not sight imparired nor given to delusions...I also told the "beer guy" the number stated in the web site for the stor stock .....or perhaps it appeared directly after your call ...I'll drop in in the next hour and report back.

They were not. on Sunday (the first time enquired) and they were not today either when I went back at 1:30PM...the winter gift packs were but not the winter release seasonals. I asked twice today when I went back...the first time they "were on a truck on the way in"...the second time they were "in the back on an unpacked skid and they had come to the wrong store"......I said if they had the yellow snow, Chimay blue, Orval and SS imp stout that I was thanking the creator for the "mistake".

They had a guy go in the back, crack the pallette and dig me out 2 of all they got in this "wrong shipment"...they certainly were not on display....the "guy" seemed ticked they came in when he hadn't sold the fall release out...I suggested putting it in the cooler section which was very sparsely stocked...he replied that isn't possible because that's for "normal beer".

Why is it I always have bad experiences at the state liquor monopoly with under acheivers and poor service industry ethics??

and he says their winter beers are on display....
No..the Rogue and SS stout I specifically asked for were not...not today either...what was on display was "normal beer" gift packs...Bavaria, Corona, Interbrew belgian etc.....this was NOT Rogue Ales that were asked for.....so I'm left wonder whay he thought he was telling you about being on display....probably doesn't know Yellow snow from corona.

don't know what to think here but you must have been speaking to brain-damaged employee.
Must be a whole store full of them except the 3rd fellow I asked who thought they "may" be on an unpacked pallete...perhaps they thought they had til Dec 5 to get them on the floor.....maybe they would discover them when they got around to unpacking the pallette some day....heaven forbid they would check computer stock levels

At any rate I'm a happy Camper I have a supply of SS Imp stout and yellow snow, Chimay bue, Mahrsbeir Christams Bock, weltenburger. DFH ale, Chimay Blue along with the other assorted seasonals available.....it was a struggle but I finally made them take my business.

At least they tried to be helpful. At my local store, I was told the Rodenbach might be in December or January, and the Fuller's, which didn't appear on his system, might perhaps be out in February. He also kept telling me that these were Vintages releases. I thought that stopped a long time ago. Nonetheless, my store has a Vintages section. This is the world's largest buyer, and persumedly, retailer of spirits. You would think they could invest in an computer system that could actually convey information.

Rant over,

Joe.

I was at the Highland Rd. LCBO yesterday, around the same time as Pootz. Nothing was on display but the guy did run back and get me two bottles of the Rogue. Didn’t seem to be that big of a deal. They do still have lots of the fall releases and even some of the summer releases left.
