Bobsy wrote:Hi guys,

These were the categories judged. We're just waiting for English Pale Ales and Scottish / Irish Ales. No results until then. All categories were based off BJCP groupings - a few were merged if we had too few entries to judge a category, and a few were split where it made sense (e.g. we had 10 black IPAs in the specialty category so we figure it deserved it's own award).

Amber Hybrid
American Amber / Brown
APA
Belgian Specialty
Belgian Strong
Belgian Wits and Pales
Black IPA (split off from 23-specialty)
English Pale Ale
Fruit Beer
German Wheat and Rye
IPA/IIPA
Lager
Light Hybrid
Mead, Braggot, Cider and Perry
Milds, Stouts and Porters
Saison
Scottish and Irish Ales
Smoked / Rauchbier
Sour Ale
Specialty
Spiced / Herbed / Vegetable
Strong Ale
Strong Specialty (split off from 23-specialty)
Wood-Aged Beer

This year's entries were phenomenal, and as a homebrewer I feel humbled. Every winner should be immensely prude - there wasn'y a single soft category in the bunch.
have all the catagories been judged now??

All have been judged and results will be emailed tonight to all participants. We'll also get em posted up online when someone gets the time! I actually had them all typed up and good to go yesterday, but it takes a long time to put 88 email addresses in the bcc field!

The email is sent, so here are the results!

First off we would like to thank you for entering this year's Toronto Beer Week Homebrew Contest and making it a huge success. We had 247 entries over 24 categories, and the quality was remarkable and a testament to the strength of our homebrewing scene. Unfortunately there could only be 24 winners. Those winning gold will advance through to the second round, which will occur at the Great Lakes Harvest Fest this coming weekend, and will be judged by brewers or representatives from five breweries. If you've made it through to the second round you have won something, and how you place in that round will determine what. We have also awarded silver and bronze awards to the 2nd and 3rd placing beers in each category. You may not have won a prize but you should be damn proud of doing well in a very hard fought contest! Feedback on individual entries will start filtering through after TBW is over. We're slow typers, so please excuse us for the delay...

Congrats to all the winners and competitors. We were hoping to place in all 4 categories we entered but given this was our first time entering a comp ever, I'll take the bronze for the raspberry wheat. It was the first fruit ale I ever brewed and was so problematic from the time the fruit made its appearance, I thought it was a goner and vowed never to mess with fruit again.

Two silvers! Definitely a pleasant surprise for me give the quality of the field. Congrats to all who participated. For me it's an honour to be in your company.

And thanks to the judges and organizers for all the hard work. I'll donate towards liver massages.
