o The Ontario Beer you drank the most of?
o The Canadian Beer you drank the most of?
Various House Ales and Great Lakes brands, Smashmouth. Lots of one offs this year meant not a ton of any one brand.

o Best New Ontario Beer you had this year?
Great Lakes (Insert IPA name here) IPA would have been a good go to with the likes of Fangboner, Lake Effect IPA, and a good half dozen more. Hands down though had to be the first batch of Karma Citra at the tap take over which knocked my socks off. The subsequent batches have all been very good but that first taste was mind blowingly good.

House Ales Abbey Normal (Funkified) was just amazingly interesting. I cant remember the last time I went back for 3+ glasses of the same beer in a night. This beer alone makes me sad that there was a line up around the block for the DDC night at Volo, and we practically had the run of the place for the House Ales tap takeover. If you missed it, you missed out on something special.

Honourable mentions: Dude Wheres My Czar, Bartowel 10th Anniversary

o Best New Canadian Beer you had this year?
Karma Citra. Non- Ontario, Dieu du Ciel Otsukaresama Bi-Ru
Runners up: St. Ambroise Stout Impériale Russe, Trader Joes Vintage Ale 2010,
I rated Howe Sound Megadestroyer quite highly but its more of a small quantity sipper.

o Best New International Beer you drank this year?
Struise Cuvee Delphine

Others: Hill Farmstead James, Kuhnhenn Hopnoxious Horizon Mead,
Mikkeller 10, Stone 15th, Mikkeller I Beat yoU, Upland Blackberry Lambic, pelican Grand Cru

o Best Canadian Brewery?
Great Lakes. See above for why. So many awesome one offs this year.

o Best International Brewery?
Upland. Not necessarily the best, but I got to try a bunch of their crazy lambics this year which was quite an experience.

o Best new brewery you discovered this year Canadian or International ?
Upland.

o Worst Beer you had this year?
Molson 0.5 (tick!), Pabst Blue Ribbon, Ciuc Premium,

o Beer Trip you are looking forward to making in 2012 year?
Potentially Savor 2012 in Washington, possibly a trip to Vermont or BCTCooperstown

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?
I didn't really do many this year. Some brewpub visits, events at Black Oak and Great Lakes.

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?
More of the same. Looking back at beers and events in Ontario this year we have had a lot of awesome stuff. Lets keep it up!

Community Beer Works in Buffalo needs to get their license!

o The Ontario Beer you drank the most of?
Beau's Lugtread Lagered Ale

o The Canadian Beer you drank the most of?
Dieu du Ciel! Chaman

o Best New Ontario Beer you had this year?
Beau's Sleepytime Barrel aged belgian stout

o Best New Canadian Beer you had this year?
Trou du Diable Nez de Poivrot

o Best New International Beer you drank this year?
Hill Farmstead Everett.

o Best Canadian Brewery?
Trou du Diable, Shawinigan, Quebec

o Best International Brewery?
For 2011? Hrmm... I'd say Sierra Nevada, for the release of Beer Camp beers, the Ovila series, the 30th Anniversary ales, the Hoptimum, Life & Limb 2, and a slew of other new solid beers. I figure no other brewery displayed more growth without sacrificing quality. A mainstream choice, but still.

o Best new brewery you discovered this year Canadian or International?
Russian River

o Best LCBO release?
Lindeman's Cuvée Renée

o Worst Beer you had this year?
A year of great beer, not a lot of drain pours. Shipyard Pumpkin I'd say. Not bad, just so much disappointing.

o Beer Trip you are looking forward to making in 2012 year?
Florida in March, or Dark Lord day if I can score tickets.

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?
MacAuslan, private walkthrough with cheif of marketting and communications.

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?
Lowered prices on oak-chip beers. 15$ for a barrel aged beer is okay... but oak chips are freaking cheap, no reason to charge barrel prices for barrel chunks. Its stealing customers.

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year? A couple of the better us breweries finally hit the lcbo. I don't think privitation would necessarily bring us better beers. Molson and company would scoop up the lcbo in a heartbeat and we could kiss those seasonal releases we look forward to goodbye.

o Worst Beer you had this year?

I think I had a Rolling Rock at some function

Back to Potdam IGA - very cool place.

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?

Alas - none

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?

I'd like to see the LC stop "rotating" releases from breweries - St. Ambroise RIS one year, Vintage Ale the next, or Brooklyn BCS, then Monster Ale - trust us: you won't flood the market.

Also, dump buckets at other events like they have at Cask Days!

o The Ontario Beer you drank the most of?
FM Smash Bomb - mostly because it's always available on tap at a local place.
If its strictly bottles, then Muskoka Mad Tom

o The Canadian Beer you drank the most of?
Central City Red Racer, unless Ontario is not disqualified by the previous question in which case its the answer above.

o Best New Ontario Beer you had this year?
The one that really sticks out in my mind and wish was made all the time is Amsterdam Elementary Ale. I would buy cases of this if available (and in the LCBO.)

o Best New Canadian Beer you had this year?
Howe Sound Mega Destroyer, but I'd agree that its just a sipper, next to that would be Le Trou du Diable V.

o Best New International Beer you drank this year?
I'll say Russian River Pliny the Elder, but this one was hard to answer with all the new US brewery's I tried this year.

o Best Canadian Brewery?
Great Lakes or Charlevoix, Great Lakes edges it out based on style preference.

o Best International Brewery?
Lots of Mikkeller this year and all were enjoyable.

o Best new brewery you discovered this year Canadian or International?
Three Floyds, never had any before this year.

o Best LCBO release?
Ayinger Celebrator. First bottle was purchased just a little over a year ago, thought it was great. Had it on tap in Chicago, fantastic. Shows up at the lcbo and bought a ton.

o Worst Beer you had this year?
Speaking strictly craft:
Weyerbacher 14, I get sick just thinking about it.
If "bad" bottles are included then I would also say Lost Abbey Angel's Share, would love to retry, but it seems its a common issue.

o Beer Trip you are looking forward to making in 2012 year?
Sad as it seems, almost any trip to the States can be fun. Realistically speaking, it will most likely be another trip to Chicago.

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?
Didn't really do any tours this year, but I think there was a drunken tour of Grand River at one of the tastings, that was a good time

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?

I would like to see a change at home here in Ontario before worrying about elsewhere soooo....an easier system for good OCB beers (including one-offs) to get into the LCBO, or would it ever be possible to separate beer from wines and spirits and just having stores specializing in beer???

Oh wait....I forgot about the Beer Store

Also, a separation of government and alcohol...

Panil and Celebrator

o Worst Beer you had this year?
Honestly... I can't really think of any drain pours I had.

o Beer Trip you are looking forward to making in 2012 year?
Italy for two weeks in May, so hopefully I can find some good shops there.

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?
Only had a chance to see Beau's and Muskoka this year.

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?
More Canadian craft brewery features at the LCBO, and just hoping the releases keep getting better. Kudos to R&R for bringing in a lot of new stuff this year. Crossing my fingers for a Struise or JP feature.

Crazy Canuck in cans
Probably Smashbomb on tap/bottles

o Best New Ontario Beer you had this year?
Great Lakes Lake Effect or Armadildo. Both are superb.

o Best New Canadian Beer you had this year?
BdM Chi. I like Ginger Beer and this one is very well done. Red Racer is pretty high up there, too.

Ithaca Flower Power. Why hadn't I tried this before?!?

o Best Canadian Brewery?

o Best International Brewery?
Probably Southern Tier for overall lineup, with a shout-out to Three Floyd's for doing amazing hoppy brews.

o Best LCBO release?
LTM Baltique Porter for special releases
Central City Red Racer for daily drinker

o Worst Beer you had this year?
Craft beer? Ghosttown. BLECH.
I mostly avoided crap macros, but did try a Rolling Rock for nostalgia sake (it was my go-to in college). My tastes have moved on.

o Beer Trip you are looking forward to making in 2012 year?
Dark Lord Day (fingers crossed)
GABF

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?
Three Floyd's edges out Stone, but only by a short bit. The private tour of Ballast Point was pretty cool, too.

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?
More collaborations. More pushing of the envelope. I'd like to see more of the recent beers make their way into LCBO distribution.

I'd like to see the craft scenes in urban areas other than Toronto show some growth in terms of selection (LCBO and bars), festivals, and numbers. I hope TO keeps growing as well, but it would be nice to see places like Ottawa, London, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and even Kingston show some noticeable positive developments. Some are definitely ahead of others, but having a stronger craft scene in more large cities across the province would definietly be welcome
I don't always drink beer ... because sometimes my friends win and we have to go to macro-only establishments.

o The Ontario Beer you drank the most of?

So many great one-offs and newbies, I can't say I drank a lot of any one beer. Probably Granite Darkside IPA or Great Lakes Canucklehead.

Ditto, but probably Les Trois Mousquetaires Baltic Porter since I bought a case of that in the 2010 private order and have also had a few 2011s now.

o Best New Ontario Beer you had this year?

Stenhouse Straight Sour Barrel Aged Porter (@ Volo's Funk Night); House Ales Tim's Robust Porter; Amsterdam Teichert Smoked Porter

o Best Brewery tour you went on this year?

o What you would like to see change in the beer world this coming year?

Would love to see less restriction on growler sales, so that brewpubs (such as Volo) and even craft beer bars generally could offer growlers of Ontario craft beers without all the "separate entrance" nonsense, etc. The Beau's home delivery program is certainly a step in the right direction!
