Trip to Denver
Trip to Denver
On Friday I'm heading to Denver for my annual ski trip (first time to Colorado). Does anyone have any recommendations for good pubs and/or restaurants? Obviously I've got the Ratebeer guide but I wanted to check if anyone knew anything else that was interesting.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Not sure what the Ratebeer guide says but the Denver Chop house and the Rock Bottom Brewpub/restaurant are both owned by the same company and both are decent. Wynkoop is good with a variety of very interesting, out of the ordinary beers (at least when I was there in 2000). The Flying Dog and Great Divide breweries are in Denver so check them out. Interesting option is the Sandlot brewpub. It's owned by Coors and is situated at the Rockies ball park. Before you turn your nose up it apparently has some extremely interesting beers, mostly German styles. I never went there because of the Coors affiliation but someone later told me I missed out.
Those are my suggestions! Be sure to take pix and file a report on your return!

Denver must be unique in that the guy who started the very successful Wynkoop Brewing Company, John Hickenlooper, is now the Mayor. John used to live in a wonderful penthouse apartment on the top floor of the brewery building. John's interest in life aside from beer is restoration of heritage buildings. He's an interesting dynamic guy.

On my business trips to Denver , the microbrewery industry was in it's infancy but I do remember the sandlot brewery as being impressive by my standards at the time...I love German imports and there were plenty on tap... I see by reviews the place is still a 4 star beer bar and the German beer theme is still strong....Alts on tap...there's a rarity worth going out of the way for.

Thanks for the tips everyone - I'm currently at Breckenridge getting ready for another day of skiing
I'll do up a report when I get back, but I was able to hit the Great Divide brewery, Falling Rock, Wynkoop, Chop House and Rock Bottom in Denver and the Breckenridge brewpub here. Great, great beer here.
