After a shitty, long workday (no, many of us who work in retail do not get "holidays"), I quickly quaffed a couple bottles of Steam Whistle, then a can of Crazy Canuck, then a bottle of Mad Tom, now a bomber of GLB Karma Citra (mmmmmmmmmmmm), maybe a bomber of GLB No Pants With Miranda Imperial Saison to cap the night? We'll see... 8)

How was the Big Eye? Got a bottle in a trade recently and curious to get an opinion on it.

Considering it's brewed in San Diego and my bottles are only a few weeks old, it's not the bold West Coast hop bomb that I expected. Has a prominent bread crusty/East Coast malt character and the hops are more piney/citric/bitter than tropical and fruity. That said it still has plenty of hop flavour through the middle and a crisp, drying finish that nearly parallels the perfection of Alpha King.

Alpha King. So good. It would be great if Three Floyds expanded distribution to Michigan. I guess I could just move to Chicago.

A first taste of some homebrew tripel, needs more time. A bottle of my Janet's Brown clone and a Wild Rose "Hop Smashed In" Belgian IPA courtesy of boney. A nice balance of spice, hops and a touch of sweetness.

You mean 2011? Was there a Tempest 2010?

Summit Great Northern Porter - I'd imagine this is pretty close to the porters that appeared in northern Minnesota taverns in the 70's. A bit light, but just enough complexity to keep things interesting.

Finished a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid. Mangos, citrus and resiny hops. Good south west coast brew, thanks boney!

Yep I mean 2011.

This Liberty Ale is damn tasty, crisp and fruity.

Earlier had some DDC at Only Cafe - Aphroditiasiaque, Rosée, and a new one called Blanche Neige - a stronger (9.5%) wheat ale loaded with rich, rounded clove and Ceylon cinnamon (or is it Chinese cinnamon / cassia?) It's really a terrible sunny-afternoon beer but I enjoyed trying such a full-on flavored beer (reminding me of the black pepper beer they also make Route Des Épices (Ale Rousse Au Poivre))
