I talked to someone today who doesn't even drink beer, and entered the lottery for fun, and won a bottle. Ha. Good news is she's inviting me over when she decides to share it. Good but not good considering there may be a lot of entered this "for fun".

For those who missed out on the LCBO lotto, I saw a bottle on ebay today going for $400

It comes down to this: Those who rolled the dice and won would have gloated with varying degrees of modesty. Those who rolled the dice and lost would have lied and said they were relieved that they didn't win so they could put the money towards other beer.

And those, like myself, who couldn't have cared less, benefit from the ones that have won this lottery. We did not care, and get to try it anyway.

Hope you do indeed know the right people. I personally won't be sharing a drop of this with someone who "couldn't care less". Too precious. I'll be sharing it with my circle who are as enthusiastic as I am and tried hard to get it like I did.

I wasn't really into the lottery thing too much, and wasn't overly hyped about this beer like others. Wasn't really on my radar. I'd like to try it, and now I will get the chance. I'm appreciative of the thought, and will reciprocate with something nice from my Christmas haul. I think that is fair.

Utopia having raised the bar, paying $18.95 for a bottle of Ola Dubh 40 doesnt seem so bad anymore.

Speaking of SA Infinium, I see its available in the US for about $20 a bottle, havent heard if it will still come out here or not. SA Noble Pils, their spring beer, probably in a couple months.

Its strange how the scarcity of top-quality beer in Ontario has created a market where Utopias is so sought after. I really wonder how a similar lottery would play out if this forum was across the border in New York state?

It occurs to me that MANY of us here have an unusual advantage in accessing exceptonal beer sold at the LC. We know all about it, we can anticipate where and when it will show up, and we can take advantage of this - all before most people even know it's coming.

So here's a rare occasion we don't enjoy our usual advantage over most of the population in order to get Utopias. I can't get too rankled over that.

No, I am certainly not.
When I said "good but not good" I clearly meant that the process can benefit both he beer lover, who intends to drink the beer and share with friends, but it can also benefit the douchebags(and there are a lot around) who will stockpile this to sell it for $400.00 at a later date.

All in all, I'll get to try the beer next week, but I put little effort into it and I am better for it.

A) I did not worry about getting chosen.
B) I did not obsessively check my e-mail in box or pghone messages for messages from the LCBO.
C) I did not think about, or lose sleep over the matter.
D) I did not go the douchebag route to win this bottle for profit.In order to do that, you need a popped collar, jagerbombs and an arm band tattoo of barbed wire that tells people you are really "fierce", all the while fist pumping to a jersey shore soundtrack.

But people 'stockpiling' anything is not 'douchebag' - it IS 'supply and demand.' For example, I know you don't like people buying up cases of desirable stuff from the Ontario system, least I think you said as much the other day. Sounds like misplaced moral concern where all that should matter is supply and demand.

In most cases - Utopias being an exception - Ontario could order more. Problem is that they just want the original shipment of the desirable beer all sold and gone, perhaps never to be seen again. The system almost justifies case-hoarding, at very least it encourages it.
