Hacker Pschorr Edelhell. I didn't know the beerstore carried this, but it was in the fridge next to the weihenstephaner. Its okay... lightly toasted malts, grassy German hops and a lingering sweetness. I'm not sure Munich Helles are my thing.

Had a couple of quads yesterday at bier markt - Konigs on tap and Achel Extra. Never had the extra before but it was great, liked i a bit more than the Konigs.
Enjoing a Trois Mousquetaires Baltic porter right now...

Amsterdam Strong Spring Bock (aka DeHydrator)...VERY nice beer. Thanks Derek, and big thanks to Amsterdam for taking a chance with this.

Also a Grand River Curmudgeon...well crafted as always from GR, but not really my style.

Achel Extra IS fantastic, JanP traded me some and it stands up proudly next to St. Bernardus 12 and Chimay Bleue. It's the Trappist fewer people talk about and has tremendous balance.

As for me enjoyed an Orval, of which I nabbed four more cases today... and now, changing gears, the Amsterdam Dehyrator is again impressing me as a very 'finished' beer that is both rich and dry. Definitely enough "Hopfen und Malz" going on here! Derek must be quite pleased with himself. :D

This weekend I went to the Hamilton Food and Drink Fest and had a number of good beers. The Grand River guys were there, so of course I had my fill of Hannenberg and Vlaams Rood. Also had a much improved version of Nickelbrook Mapel Porter. They aparently use their own harvested maple syrup now, which now come across much more subdued than what I remember. Very tasty.

This afternoon I was on to Cameron's Dark and Doppel-Hirsch Doppelbock. I'll be finishing the night out BBQ'ing with a Tree Hophead IIPA, which I had to lie, beg, cheat and steal for. I'm expecting it to be excellent.

Weltenburger & Amsterdam Bock.

The Weltenburger is definitely breadier, with a little more chocolate & sweetness... the strong spring bock has more dark caramel & bitterness.

It's great to have a couple of meals-in-a-glass before dinner. :D

Chimay Grande Reserve from '04. Fantastic. You can't even taste the alcohol which i find the newer bottles still have some traces of.

Cool!

I've always wanted to try out the 'big' Chimays that have been aged a while. My 33cl's of 2006 Chimay Blueue is holding out remarkably, but I might resist keeping it for decades.

Have there ever been the 1.5L or 3L bottles available at the LCBO for Chimay or other beers?

I can't remember ever seeing the larger bottles. I still have some smaller 330ml bottles from old releases at the LCBO, but the majority of Blue cap I have is in 750ml from the SAQ. I have one 1.5 L bottle that I prize, which was a gift from a friend who went to on a trip to France and it's from 2006 I believe. Still plenty of time to let it sit.

Not sure if the LCBO has ever had them in store, but Esprit does. I bought a case of 750's and he also had the 1.5L version.
