We were the agents for Liefmans and it did not show up for reasons that, to this day, are completely unknown to us. The brewery lied and told us the beer was shipped when it had not even been brewed for a number of months. We kept telling the LCBO it was on the way but when pressed for shipping details the brewery finally admitted that they had not shipped. We suspect that they were (and still are) in financial difficulty. Once they did that to us as their agents, we dropped them like a hot potato. There are too many good and reputable and businesslike breweries in Belgium for us to be bothered with people the likes of Liefmans. We wish Macauslan well in representing them here in Ontario but question their judgement in dealing with these people. This is not the first bad experience we have had with this brewery and I have no doubt Macauslan will learn quickly what it's like to deal with these guys. People in the business in Belgium also tell us that this is, without doubt, one of the most difficult breweries to work with and many will have nothing to do with them. MY main source of third party beers in Belgium was screwed by them for a lot of money and would not touch their products with a ten foot pole.
Thanks for the concern and heads up on this Peter. We will definately keep it in mind.
As an add in on them, we have been representing Liefmans in Quebec for a number of years without any of these issues. In fact Liefman sales in Quebec is flourishing both on draft and at the retail level.
Cheers!
Andrew
