I just finished my first Burton Porter of this release and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great earthy roastiness combined with drying hop and a flavourfully tart edge - wonderful with the aged cheddar that formed the backbone of my lunch. For those who haven't tried this and may be put off by some of the earlier comments, I strongly recommend giving it a shot! I'll certainly be buying more than the few remaining in my fridge.

OK... Certainly makes me want to try a few more. People do love all sorts of 'strange' flavors in wine - such as mushroom, earth or even 'animal' 'tar' 'leather' 'petrol' etc - we should be as open-minded about beer that tries to evolve similar new possibilities.

When I tried it a couple years ago, I thought it was quite good:

Though at 4.5% (sitting on the shelf at room temperature), I could see it going downhill very quickly. If you're going to try it, I suggest picking it up ASAP, then getting it into a fridge.

Just having one and I think this beer is excellent, though (full disclosure) I have also liked it in previous years when many others have not. Complex, as stated above. Yeasty, roasty, and some of the traditional "horseblanket" porter flavour. Similar to previous years' versions I would say.
