Well why don't you plan to get there when it opens like most people do? That would avoid the problem

I don't think that is a reasonable alternative for everyone.

One would think that they might be able to swing by an event only a couple hours after it starts, and be able to get in. It is not an unreasonable assumption. If establishments are going to be turning people away, and this becomes commonplace, then the establishments should open these events to ticket holders only. This way, people will know ahead of time that they are guaranteed a spot.

I don't think its any excuse. Would you go to a movie after it starts and complain if they wouldn't let you in? I doubt it. Showing up on time usually helps. I think everyone here should stop whining about every goddamn thing under the sun.

I suppose I could have cut out of work early to drink beer but that seems foolish.

I don't think there was any "whining" going on. Just a disappointed customer giving feedback about a particular experience. We all aren't able to get everywhere "right on time". Which is why these events run for several hours. People come and go. Comparing it to a movie is plain silly, and unnecessary. You are quick to criticize, and reluctant to provide constructive or helpful insight. Instead of taking every opportunity to inject negative influence into the conversation, why not try being understanding, compassionate, and perhaps a bit understanding?

Why should I be understanding? If work was an issue, why not complain that he couldn't get out of work? Its not the venue/organizers fault he couldn't make it on time, its his. Sack up and deal with it.

I think that the original complaint wasn't aimed at the venue, or the organizers. He was simply telling his story. And at the end, he found that next time, it would be easier for him if tickets were perhaps sold ahead of time. There were several issues, I'm sure, that contributed to his being "late", but in the end, it was simply shitty luck. But those with shitty luck for a day still have the right to provide insight into their personal experiences.

And you don't have to be understanding, it was just a suggestion. I always try putting myself in others shoes. It makes it a bit easier to understand their experiences.

Did someone shit in your corn flakes today or are you always such a knob?

Perhaps there was the assumption given that the event was advertised to run for SEVEN hours that one would be able to show up mid-afternoon, get in and still have beer available. That doesn't bode well for future events, much like Volo's, where people show up to get in line earlier and earlier. Crazy.

If I was in toweringpine's position I'd be unhappy too. I was trying to decide if the girlfriend and I were going to attend around mid-afternoon. Good thing we wound up not going as we couldn't make the opening bell.

I'm with Viggo on this one. While I do feel sorry for the individual who couldn't get in, the Victory is hardly to blame. They had no idea that the event was going to be that successful. They ran out of beer just after five pm due to the large crowd. Line ups formed after three pm.

What I think Viggo is saying is that while the individual was upset he didn't get in, he shouldn't hold the Victory accountable. Maybe showing up at 1pm would have prevented this situation from arising, maybe not.

The event was very well done, very organized and very accommodating. The beers were excellent and the host's were great.

Viggo is a good guy, know him personally. Not a knob.

Now, it would be nice to hear some positive stories from people who did manage to attend the event; like Bobsy's earlier post - no more negative shite.

He wasn't holding Victory accountable, and no one was questioning the ability of the hosts to have a good event. The guy didn't get in to the event , and he thought he was. As a result, he was upset. As a result, he posted his personal experience. I don't see one remark which points to the host and points the finger.

We all appreciate the effort and work that goes into these events. But if someone has an unpleasant experience (in a perfect world this wouldn't happen), then they should be welcome to post what they thought.

Why should anyone assume they're going to get into an event? Lots of people go to them.

But he is holding the organisers accountable as he mentions THEY a few times. THEY must be someone in charge of the event, THEY can't be no-one. Given the fact that the Victory was limited to 100 people was a major factor in the line ups outside, and going on the figures from the summer festival, when they counted 86 attendees, then they thought there would be sufficient room and possibly no lineups.

Besides, look at the complaining that went on when Volo announced the sale date for the tickets to Cask Days last year, all sorts of stupid excuses came out about why people couldn't make it into town to buy tickets; I'm decorating that day, I'm gardening that weekend, I'm having a headache that day..........................

No matter what publicans do here about their events, people will always piss 'n bloody moan. Get over yerselves!!!!!!!!!!!!

And as a side note, well done to Blake, Neil, Maz, Robert, Nick and the many others who took time out of their day to organise and run this great day. It appeared to run like clockwork. To completely sell out of all beers by roughly 5pm was an achievement and a half and can only bode well for more cask events. Brava!!!!!

Very "constructive" and very inappropriate  . I hope you have the decency to delete this post, this place is far better than your comment above.
