pootz wrote:Well that's not true as the Huether is still operating and is expanding their seasonal offerings...it may not be fancy but it's fresh and well crafted micro brew.
Rob did you ever get to try their blueberry?
The Huether is in Waterloo and I'm not that far north very often. Waterloo also has Jane Bond and the Grad House so there are more options up there. Kitchener is pretty much a void (despite the efforts from the Holiday Inn).
Nope, I've always enjoyed the Adleys Ale in the brewpub. I've also had a few Jesters in my time.
You don't have to go far for Ontario micros on tap.
Both the Baden Hotel and the Blue Moon ( Petersburg) have a great selection of Ontario micros ( from that part of the province ), as well as great food and a country pub atmosphere.

that's clever of them. because right now is a really good time to be heavily-invested in residential real estate.
Went to the Castle last night for one last pint. Unfortunately, they were out of the Executioners. Still had lots of great brews though.
For those that are interested, the Castle is selling off some of their glassware (and the suits or armour!). They will have most of the glasses on display on Sunday downstairs. If you can't make it then, just talk to Harold, Deanna or any of the friendly servers and they will walk you through what's for sale. Lots of really great wheat beer glasses for sale, if that's your thing.
I resisted the urge to buy any glassware the other night, but I was thinking of buying that Executioners sign they have - $40 just seemed pretty steep. And my wife wouldn't let me buy any of the for sale suits of armour.
Ah well, we'll see what is left Friday when I go for the last time
matt7215 and I will be at the Castle tonight around 7. If anyone from here is there feel free to say hi. I wanted to go at least a couple times this week but my exams/lack of cash/possible funeral of my Grandmother's to attend will probably make this my last visit .
I'm still a little confused why they are closing in the first place? Is it because business wasn't there, or is it because the land owner just doesn't want to lease it to them any longer?

From the first post in the thread, Len:
Harold & Deanna have been unable to secure a deal to purchase the building with the owner and he has been raping them on the lease so Harold has decided to close up shop.
I read this to mean that the rent is too high to make it worth their while to remain open.

Thanks Greg.
That's what I was wondering. Every time I went it was really busy, so I suspected business was good. But I have always been suspicious of these land lord types who make their rent too high in order to push out the current tennants just to sell to another developer. Are these land owners really that malicious? Are there these type of slime balls seemingly everywhere? Is nothing sacred?
It recently happened here with a place called the Paragon. It was on Oxford and WHarncliffe, a few blocks from the UWO main gates. A gold mine breakfast restaurant catering to students. Place was absolutely packed from open to close. Then I read an article in the LFP about how it was closing, and that although the place was doing excellent business, the jack ass landlord was selling out to another landowner. Guess the owner? Starbucks? Yes indeed folks, a family run business with 60 years service to the local community, is bought out by capitalist slime whose only thought is the bottom line. No regards for family who owned the place, or for the many patrons who made it their regular breakfast stop.
Sorry for the rant, but these capitalist slime balls really irk me.
