The Bar Towel

Had a pint of this at Rhino tonight. Excellent stuff! And it was $5.50, which is a little pricey by Rhino standards, but apparently quite a bargain for this particular beer, as I understand it going for 7 or 8 bucks some other places.

Followed it with a pint of Corporal Punishment, which was fantastic. The best of any Scotch Irish beer I've tried since Perry left. A good sign, I'd say.

Holy crap, $5.50 is considered expensive for a pint? That's ridiculous! Especially for an import. $5.25 is the cheapest I've ever come across and that was for domestic. I've got to get to this bar if 5.50 is considered expensive! Damn!

On your last note, I completely agree. The only Heritage product I currently feel is even drinkable.

I went to the Kick Off yesterday in the hopes of getting to try the Harry, but they were out of it at the moment. Looking forward to it when I get the chance.

5.50 Harry... I thought a pint was around 7.00 at BB. It's just unusually premium I guess.

I should try the Corporal on tap, the bottles I had were not great. Suffering through mediocre pint is not much fun, but if you guys say so... Is this Heritage thing one of those "broken-record" conversations, or what... ? I've yet to have a bad Stuarts, it's weird.

Yeah, Rhino has remarkably low prices. I honestly don't usually pay attention to what I'm paying there, I just pay the bill when it comes, but I think the regular offerings are $5.00 or $5.25. I doubt they have anything over $6.00.

I continue to love this beer. Just the right balance of rich malt and finishing hops (for me). But is it 6.5% or 4.8%? It feels more like 6.5% (I'd say), yet Rate Beer, Beer Advocate and Fuller's own web site all say it is 4.8%. Can anyone explain?

The pumpclip provided to the Kiwi says 6.5abv and the effect on my brain says 6.5. If you want a real mind bender try 1/2 Mr. Harry 1/2 Curmudgeon. After a few of these, we determined the effect to be almost narcotic. I'm definitely staying away from this for the good of my soul.

Fuller's (and other UK breweries, such as Adnams) often brew two different versions of the same beer - one for cask, one for bottles/kegs - with differing alcohol percentages. i.e. the bottle/keg is often stronger than the cask version.

I suspect that 4.8% is the abv for the cask version, with 6.5% for the keg & (probably) bottled version.

I'd considered that, but the RB and BA entries seem to be pretty clearly referring to a bottled version at 4.8%. It is a mystery.
