Brand engineering pitfalls
rickards white in bottles is perhaps the worst beer i have ever tasted. it has an overpowering chemical flavor that is rather undrinkable (fake orange flavor, what is it HI-C or Tang?) both cold and warm. the warmer the beer gets (it was a very slow drink, due to not wanting to upset my neighbor who declares it "the best beer ever") the more the artifical the flavor becomes. it left a horrible after taste that lingered well into the bottle of Rogue Brutal Bitter i had to forget about my experience.
if you need me i'll be in the fifth circle of hell
I LOVE RICKARD'S WHITE.

Honest, it's good. I've since bought more.
Very interesting to see the rating differences between it and Blue Moon, if it is in fact the same beer. A friend is doing some IT work with Molson Coors, and he was told it is the same beer, but that they couldn't call it Blue Moon in Canada due to Labatt Blue.

It's not my favourite of the style, but it is still a good beer. I tried it bottled once and found it flatter and sweeter than on tap. I like this style to be crisper. I say stick to the tap version.Philip1 wrote:
Anyone else agree with that statement? I haven't tried it as I'd have to buy a full six pack, something I haven't been willing to do based on my experiences with the other Rickard's beers. Lately I've been getting a six pack of White beer every weekend but I'm looking for something different. Where I live the White beers usually available are Blanche de Chambly, Hoegaarden and occasionally Mill St Belgian Wit. Oh, and Dave's President's Choice really cheap Blanche beer! I'd be surprised if Rickard's is in the same category as Chambly, Hoegaarden, and Mill St but after really enjoying the Kronenbourg Blanc, much to my surprise, I'm trying to keep an open mind.
Guilty! I can't believe I didn't catch that. MY APOLOGIES TO WELLINGTON, especially since I like most of their beers a lot. I guess I was so busy trying to get that taste out of my mouth I didn't re-read my post.GregClow wrote:Oh, and to the original poster: are you sure you didn't mean WATERLOO Wheat rather than Wellington Wheat? There is no mention of a wheat beer on the Wellington website, and aside from their Trailhead Lager, they tend to stick with UK-style ales, so I'd find it strange for them to do a wheat beer.
Plus, the Waterloo Wheat is pretty awful. Too bad, as the original version that they released as a limited edition in bomber bottles a couple of years ago was quite decent. But the recently relaunched version is crap.

No surprise, Rickards is not as good as these three, but it is quite drinkable and far better than Keith's ( I call that Blue Light with dust in it) or Dave's, which I found to be awful.Philip1 wrote: Where I live the White beers usually available are Blanche de Chambly, Hoegaarden and occasionally Mill St Belgian Wit. I defer to my girlfriend on Belgian Wits as she loves them and I hate them. She had Rickard's White three Mondials ago and found it too orangey and too sweet. She didn't even finish the sample she got. She's not going to bother with Keith's unless it's a free sample with some other beverage on stand by.
Erdinger is the weakest weisse I've ever had both on tap and in bottle.
