This story confirms my intuition about the healthy state of the microbrewery/local beer business. I know that one has to be careful about jumping to conclusions based on a sample size of one (Picaroons), but I'll go for it!
The stars are aligning for this niche portion of the food and beverage industry. More and more people are demanding locally produced everything. I am not surprised that tourists are also seeking out local beers in their travels. The first beer they ask for is a local beer.
Imagine a business scenario wherein you can't keep up with demand! 2/3 of your products are sold out and sales are up 60% over the previous year. If Picaroons can stick to a business plan and maintain managed growth, they will prosper forever. Hopefully the same results are in store for the Ontario industry.
A sea change is underway and gathering momentum. The financially healthy Canadian microbreweries who have a strategy and plan, are in for the ride of their lives over the next several years.

Late to the PO thread, but the wife and I just came back from a trip out east. I was last in Fredericton about 12 or 13 years ago. I had just started grad school when Picaroons began. We used to drink with Andy and Sean a bunch. Really good guys. I was thrilled that the company made it back, albeit in a different incarnation, and they're doing well. As much as I like the bitter, the IPA is quite good and the imperial pilsner is even better. Even better though, is their Watermelon Head. Could be the best fruit ale I've ever had.
The market in New Brunswick has really evolved. In 98, most bars served the typical fare with only Picaroon's Tap House offereing the goods. I was overwhelmed this summer. The drinking public seems to have embraced the independent brewers.
Enjoy your goods when you receive them!!!!

Diving through Oromocto last week, I figured I'd be able to pick some up, no luck, they were sold out.
They are having
trouble keeping up with the demand.

I asked Cass about it when I saw him during TBW, and he said that they hadn't yet gotten enough orders to fill a pallet. He was considering going ahead with it anyway (maybe filling the balance with stuff to be kept for consignment sales?), but I'm not sure if he's done so yet.

Greg's correct, we don't have enough orders for a full pallet just yet. Without it the case pricing can be affected as the shipping cost has to be spread over a fewer number of cases. Let me take a look at things and I'll see what to do next.

How short are we? I could order another case or two of something? Maybe others would too. I'm super excited to try this stuff.

Just an update on this - I think I'll close the order now and get things rolling to get the beer into Ontario for those that ordered. Stay tuned for details.

I'm in for this order! I spent two years at UNB and feel as though I should have thanked Picaroons for getting me through my MA! Best Bitter is perhaps the best beer I've ever tasted. I had a friend bring me some home two years ago, but haven't had it since. Here's to all the Upper Canadians with a taste for NB's finest!
