Yeah I sometimes like to have shitty beer just for the lolz. The only time I had RR was an old can from my friends fridge when I was 19, it was largely flavourless. But I resent how this crap has been shoved down our throats this year. It's everywhere I go. Kick Off, Rolling Rock. Jane Bond, Rolling Rock. Boston Pizza, Rolling Rock. Matter of Taste Café, Rolling Rock. Retirement home, Rolling Rock. Funeral Home, Rolling Rock. Christ, even the day-care run out of one of the buildings at WLU has Rolling Rock on tap occasionally. It's like, come on...

I figured this must be taking off. We've been shorted on it on our last two LCBO deliveries. Maybe that's a blessing!

I sometimes wonder what would happen if they gave the same promotion and exposure to, say, a craft-type IPA. Or even a porter. I'd wager it would sell as much, maybe more. Look at Jagermeister (different beverage category, but still). I mean, try it, why not?

I'm amazed at some people's comments, but I remember going down to the states in the late 80's early 90's when Rolling Rock (along with Coors Extra Gold!) were the beers to grab. Maybe some people still have that memory in their heads. All I see is comments from people gushing that RR is their FAVOURITE beer of all time

As an interesting addition to this discussion: I was at Earl's for lunch today (at Square One in Mississauga) and they have added a few craft beers to their menu, which is great to see.

That said, they appear on the menu as follows:

Local Micro Brewed Beers
Muskoka Cream Ale, Rolling Rock, Mill Street Tankhouse Ale, Cameron's Auburn Ale.


Is RR actually being marketed as a micro brewed beer? It most certianly isn't local AND micro brewerd.... although you could possibly drink RR that is one or the other.

I feel like I've spotted Rolling Rock in product placement recently. Could be that, could just be hipster nonsense. Could be both.

Not recent, but I'm think I remember Rolling Rock being featured at a few Sopranos barbeques.

My wife loves this stuff everytime we are in the States. MY GOD the DMS!

I even brewed a basic Cream Ale which had BMC written all over it and she doesn't really like it. Now I'm stuck with 5 gallons of boring beer.

What's the lesser of two evils? Insulting your homebrew or being stuck with five gallons of it? I'm thinking the former.

I had one at a local, one part curious, one part lack of options. I generally try a beer if there is a good beer-geek hate on for it. I wish I'd gotten a G&T. It's slightly better then most of the North American big brands. But oh so corny. Like Nebraska in a glass.....

If it makes you guys feel any better, A-B-InBev is going to expand exportation and distribution of Kokanee to the US (to replace the Labatt brand the US regulators made them give up here as part of the merger deal) AND they are going to brew and market some Alexander Keith branded beers domestically at A-B facilities -tho' they don't seem to be the same styles as those in Canada - a Brown Ale, Pale Ale and Lager.

Next up - US-brewed Bass Ale - the final straw in a long series of dumbing down that once great beer.
