Drinking a Smashbomb purchased from the brewery today, bottled July 11th. Much better than the sixer I picked up at the LCBO. This is Smashbomb as it tastes on tap.

For some reason the physical case says "F282011" but the bottles are all printed with "Jul/11/2011".

my guess is that they reused the case's sent to the LCBO the first time and just filled them with fresh beer.

And to add my two cents on Smashbomb bottles I thought it was still a solid beer, a little maltier and slightly less citrusy but nothing that would make me not buy it again or even bitch about it in every forum on the internet for that matter. I will keep buying this thats for sure its better than Mad Tom and pretty even between this and ST with the advantage goign to Smashbomb because its local

Perhaps I am blind, but I do not see a date code on any of the bottles, nor on the carton, of the sixer I picked up tonight at Avenue and Lawrence 'BO. Where are these date codes found exactly?

Check the neck of the bottle (or just below). It's in black ink, so is hard to see looking down at a bottle, but is easy to spot if you hold a bottle to the light and rotate it until the numbers are in view. If that makes sense...

I bought two sixers, one didn't have any dates anywhere.

I guess I too have found the bottles a little less hoppy than the draft.

But that's like saying I find Broken Social Scene a little less awesome than Arcade Fire. Both are awesome.

But then again, I found them really balanced so maybe that's a good thing. I prefer the citra in the SB to the Centennial in Mad Tom, plus I like the malt profile in SB bottles. I actually sometimes find hops without a good malt backbone a little boring (hence ST 2X IPA) which is what I love about this beer - 70+ IBUs, and it leaves you wanting more!!!

Still - driving through Barrie next week, and I'll pick up a case at the brewery, if for no other reason than the marginal freshness and the $6.

I agree. On a relative scale, the bottle I tried was not quite as nice as when I had this on draught. But who cares, on an absolute scale this is still awesome.

Thanks - got it! That is one hard date code to see. Confirm mine are June 17. Oh well.

Regarding the original discussion, I had a draught (keg, not cask) Smashbomb at Volo on Friday, and am now having a bottle, stamped June 17. I don't detect much of a difference. The Citra hops are quite prominent. It is big and bold with a definite Citra nose and a lingering green finish. I quite like it -- especially as it gets closer to room temperature. (Oh, and the date code is much easier to see once the bottle is empty).

There was some talk about the August 30th bottles. I couldn't remember what thread it was in, but this seemed appropriate. I find this batch is more like Hoptical but with more hop bitterness. I just had a Smashbomb on tap and an August 30th bottle and the bottled version is way different and way different than the previous bottled batch(s). Not horrible just not what I was expecting and a little let down.
We can get drunker than this!!

I often see people talking about how fresh their Smashbomb is when they buy 6ers at the LC. Now i must be missing something. Where are these dates?! None of the many i've bought t my local LC in North Bay have dates anywhere.

On the base of the neck, in black ink. Just hold the bottles up to a light, should be visible. Just picked up a 6'er of some Sept 14 bottles.
