Had Bobcaygeon Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout (2021) last night.

I love these types of beers. This one seemed a bit on the sweet side though if that makes sense. Could this be because it is a few years old now? I don't really know how aging changes these beers.

Persian Empire Aria IPA

This is not at all a typical IPA. First, it's 5% alc, so for me, that's a Pale Ale, not an IPA.

This one has a very different flavour too, sort of flowery or perfumy. The can doesn't say what type of hops are used.

Royal City Lite Lager.
It’s really quite good and full flavoured for the low abv. I’d put it up there with my top choices in the Ontario light beer lineup. Stands up nicely to the Bellwoods Ultra and Muskoka Tread Lightly

Another work trip to Toronto:

At C'est What?:
Durham Hop Addict (draft)
Clifford Porter (draft)

At Bar Volo:
Volo Zina Bitter (draft)
Gueuzerie Tilquin Clementine Tilquin (5oz sample)
Volo Lino IPA (draft)

The older I get, the more I seek out reliable places where you're basically guaranteed a great experience, especially when I have limited time to spare. C'est What? and Bar Volo fit that bill and they did not disappoint on this trip.

Sparrow Sheffield Bitter-Very very good. Caramel forward, perfect carbonation, orange pekoe tea, nice bitterness. In a world where we can’t access the phenomenal Fullers ESB, I’m glad I live close enough to have this beer often.

Sparrow Stranger from Glen Robertson- Collab with Wood Bros. To be honest, and I’m probably in the minority, but I’m not a fan generally of Wood Bros. I’ve had about a dozen of their beers and they’re just not for me for whatever reason. This beer is better than any of the WB beers I’ve had. Juicy tropical and very dank.

Barrel Heart a couple beers I don’t remeber the name of. All were really good-excellent. Plums a poem was great, Blackberry Shine like stars also great. My favourite though has been their farmhouse lager. A perfect blend of dry and crisp with some funk kicking around in there as well.

Wellington Euro Foam Pilsner-A bit torn on this one…I think the beer tasted really nice and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The nitro obviously gave a creamy mouthfeel, but I’m not sure it added anything to this beer. I think I’d prefer a classic preparation.
I’d be interested to see them brew this recipe and can it normally.

Refined Fool Terry’s Obnoxious Windbreaker Double IPA

This was in their most recent IPA Fun Box that they seem to bring out once or twice a year. Described as a West Coast classic with a clean malt backbone that gives way to an explosion of citrusy, piney hops. 8.4% alc

I really liked it. Would even be inclined to put it on the list of best Ontario West Coast IPAs, except I think it's a one-off. It's not listed separately on their website.

I just finished my annual dryuary, so I'm drinking every thing I can find. There was some interesting stuff under the kitchen sink last night. Sorry about the typos, my vision seems a little less than perfect...

While 'organizing'* the cold cellar I found a bottle of Brooklyn chocolate stout from 2010. I'm probably going to explore that tonight.

*moving things around without actually making any decisions.

A couple random finds at the lcbo from Parsons.

Westy Pale ale and Noice IPA.

Of the two, the pale ale is better I think. Classic west coast profile, lots of grapefruit and very refreshing.
Noice is also west leaning but not as tasty as the westy. A bit of a bubblegum, weiss-like finish on it that drops it a couple notches for me. Still a tasty beer.
I’m thinking Westy is going to be a new regular buy for me. Another welcome addition to the west coast IPA lineup these days.

I've been in the same "beer league" hockey league for heading towards 30 years. it has been interesting to see the evolution of what typically gets brought to the games.

When I started in the ate 90's, 355 mL cans of Blue, Export, or Canadian were most common. Penalty for forgetting your turn was to bring tall boys the next week.

At some point, in the early to mid 2000s I suppose, the players, let's say, matured. It became more common to bring tall cans and a selection of German or Czech beers. We had a joke one time about bringing something in a green can - there were lot's of options.

In recent years, we disappointingly have regressed. Coors and Coors light are very common, and often in the short cans. I think it's due to a lot of newer, younger players in the league, reduced drinking in general, and probably the expense.

Fortunately, I have had one or two teammates in recent years who have an interest in beer, and when it's our turn, we often bring each other something special.

Last night, a teammate brought me Fairweather Motor Home Westie IPA. For whatever reason, I haven't had too much from Fairweather before. This one was excellent. I really should get myself over there sometime.

Fairweather very very rarely misses. I think of the dozens and dozens of different beers that I’ve had from them, there’s only been 1 or 2 duds. And thats more likely due to me rather than them.

I really like their stuff too. Though their IPAs tend to the hazy side which isn't my preference, I still find I enjoy them quite a bit which I think is high praise.

Burdock April Dry Stout

If ever there was a good month to have this, this is it. :D

(Yes, I can be a little quirky this way. Guess which day of the week I have had Burdock Tuesday Saison. A year or two ago when the family watched Barbie, I had a couple of blonde ales)

You never know what to expect from small independent bars. I’m at the Doors Pub: Taco Joint & Metal Bar in Hamilton. They have what appears to be all of Clifford’s bees available.

Having Devil’s Punchbowl.
