My recollection is that it wasn't a part of Wynne's feel good "We've broken the beer store monopoly, we're bring beer to grocery stores! " announcement, but that the LCBO statement that they will be scaling back features coincided with talks with the beer store. So we're left connecting the dots...
If memory serves, that was something they openly discussed at a conference that a BT member was present for.
Protecting the beer store isn't an explicit part of the act, but they don't hide that that's a priority. When they put 12 packs in a handful of stores, they openly admitted they were only doing it as a pilot to make sure it wouldn't erode TBS market too much.

It is called "Aphrodite" here in ONT, yes. It is correct that the LCBO thinks all beer names must be taken literally, because if you look at creative beer names ALL of them are in fact completely serious.Ceecee wrote:It's probably Aphrodisiaque.spinrsx wrote:do you mean Aphrodisiaque?PeenSteen wrote:4 packs of DDC Aphrodite should be hitting stores next week
Thank goodness as well our Social Responsibility guardians of moral splenderosity no longer deny there really IS a Samichlaus.

Seems that each year they'll grant one new word out of the vulgar dictionary and allow it to enter the sanctity of the liquor store. Im glad they've given bastard immunity. Bolshevik bastard, kentucky bastard, arrogant bastard, fat bastard wines, so on..
LCBO being primarily a wine merchant, they must have allowed fat bastard first ... then realized they had to go along with the beers otherwise seem foolish, like that would have been surprisingRussell v R wrote:Seems that each year they'll grant one new word out of the vulgar dictionary and allow it to enter the sanctity of the liquor store. Biegaman: any word on if the lcbo will be carrying any other varieties of Stone in the future? Or perhaps making certain Stone beers a regular listing?
I wouldn't be optimistic. We likely won't ever see a regular listing from Stone because of how the LCBO orders (big bulk orders, and Stone is strict with their shelf life). As for the ad-hoc releases, there are supposed to be two more (one in spring, one in summer). But the brewery is really unhappy - for a variety of reasons - with how the last two were (mis)handled. They'll be meeting with the LCBO in a few weeks so we'll know more then. But, like I said, it's not looking good...spinrsx wrote:Biegaman: any word on if the lcbo will be carrying any other varieties of Stone in the future? ^ Yes the LazyBO are really screwing Ontario out of some really nice opportunities such as a solid relationship with Stone. It's like having Stalin (or Mister Magoo?) in charge of a whole spectrum of beer culture out of the USA.
I was thrilled to see Stone Smoked Porter in stores & already have Milk Stout in the fridge!
thank you LCBO...

the lcbo is so frustrating.
Only gonna get worse with this Supermarkets experiment. At least there will be a lot of Lake of Bays for everybody.
