Mixing it up a little tonight....

-Cheval Blanc No. 926: odd, it's supposed to be an Amber, but I clearly got their Wit, making me think a labeling error occurred.
-Tree's Black Tree Dark Ale: a mix of Tree's Porter and Pale Ale. Tasty, but the two did not integrate well. It was like taking a swig of their Pale Ale and then chasing it with their Porter.
-Verhaeghe Echt Kriekenbier: very nice. More subtle oak than their Duchesse De Bourgogne.

750 of Beau's Oktoberfest beer, Night Marzen. This was tasty... nice sweet caramel malts, a bit of spice and citrus, very enjoyable. Plus it was bottled today, and was drunk from a new Beau's Oktoberfest stein that I got for free for returning a bunch of the ceramic bottles.

Charlevoix Vache Folle ESB. Joke is on me I guess, for having spent more than $1.00 on this sour yeast bomb.

Yes. Got it at Jovi about 2 months ago. Along with their Blonde, which was in similar shape. Too bad, I normally like stuff from that brewery.

Wow. This beer is fabulous. If I didn't know any better I'd never guess that this was made in Canada. Ontario brewers should take note, because this is better than anything made here.

I'm loving how there's something different to it. I haven't quite put my finger on it yet, but there is definitely something unique to it. Good thing I have 47 more bottles to figure out what exactly makes it unique.

That looks to me, in all honesty, like unfiltered Sgt. Majors or a blend of that and the Stuarts. I have never had a Corporal even close to that colour . I shudder when I think what Heritage is doing to the beer I once loved so much, even in the post-Perry era.

I was thinking I just got a mis-labelled bottle. I'm sure I had a bottle of Heritage Dark once that was a mis-labelled Sgt. Major's. Whether it was Corporal, Stuart's or something else, it was an infected gusher. Maybe the "Quebec sourness" has crept across the border...

That's too bad Steelback Guy. La Vache Folle ESB can be very good. I sent an email to a guy yesterday asking if he could send me another round in fact.

Definitely a shame. The ESB is good stuff. I just had a bottle of the La Vache Folle Bravo Douple IPA that I picked up yesterday at Dep De La Rive in Quebec City. Hopefully available in Gatineau, too.

Like I said, I enjoy their stuff normally. But my bottles of Vache ESb and Blonde were mediocre and drain pours respectively. I really enjoyed the milk stout I picked up at the same time though.

At beerbistro got to try the Tilburg Duth Brown Ale & the Black Oak "Oaktoberfest" - both very good.

The St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout at Cameron House was extremely tasty as well!! When you catch a really good pint of that it is magical. Other times it can be a little flat tasting - dry, dull and one-dimensional.

So I had a weird experience this evening. Tried my bottle of Garrison Maple Moon, I've honestly never come across anything so promising at first from the aroma, only to take a pretty epic turn for the worse. It was actually pretty dramatic how much of a train-wreck it turned into within the span of half a second. I'm still a lit bit shaken.

Smelled amazing, like actual maple syrup in harmony with an amber ale, then WHAM. Sourness so foul I dare not speak of the horrors. And it just got worse and worse with every sip I took to the point I actually couldn't bring myself to drink any more if their were a gun pointed at my head. Other than the sour flavour there was absolutely no sign of infection though. Looked and smelled fine, the carbonation was in check, bottle didn't gush.

The Sleeman Bock I'm using to wash out my mouth right now is heaven compared to, the other stuff. Weird because I thought Garrison's Imperial Pale was one of the single best Canadian beers I've ever had. I'm not sure I'll sleep tonight . The horror, the horror.......
