Arcadia Jaw-Jacker, a pumpkin spiced ale but no pumpkin - Pours an orangey-amber with off white head that dissipates to a rim of lacing fairly quickly. Overwhelming cinnamon aroma, which features strongly in the flavour profile but nutmeg and malt bread are quite discernible too. Finishes with some nice citrus hops. Mouthfeel is good, but this beer while having the basics, just doesn't have unity 2.7/5

Finally getting to try some Corne du Diable. This would never have shown up in my area if I hadn't got the biggest store to order some through my tireless pestering and inquiring, and what can apparently be legally referred to as borderline 'harassment'. You're welcome KW.....

After a Citrouille, I feel like having a porter and grab a Black Irish Plain Porter, which is disappointing - it pours flat as piss and has a similarly welcoming personality, certainly not a fouled beer, it's just a beer without much soul or substance. It lacks everything the 2007 brewing embodied and I am now finished with gambling on bottled Scotch Irish (as made currently by Heritage.) To celebrate my decision, I add a dash of Péché Mortel to the glass of boring flat porter and - presto - it now tastes pretty decent, as a "coffee porter."

I head to the cellar and produce a bottle of Sierra Nevada Harvest 2009 "fresh hop". By association I am reminded of the "fresh hop" beers our Ontario producers make. This was about four bucks, pop goes the cap... ohhh THIS is what hops really smell like! While I kind of appreciate the Hop Nouveau, it's kind of a pretender compared to this lovely stuff. And two bucks more which is beyond silly, Trafalgar. The Belgian sighs... ahh fuck it. Soon I'm going to Buffalo anyways.

Another odd mix of a night.

-Konig Ludwig Weissbier (pretty decent, very citrussy)
-Paddock Wood 606 IPA (a bit of a let down)
-Rochefort 6 (first time trying it, unlike the 8 and 10, I can pound this so it's dangerous)
-Grand River Russian Gun (whoa, few months since I've had this. Maturing very well. So frickin' chewy and delicious!)

My wife is in Hamilton enjoying GR Highballer Pumpkin on tap. I'm extremely jelous.

Sounds awesome. IPA-Tripel beers seems to be an emerging trend in craft brewing too. Hmmmmm, I might pull out my Chouffe Houblon IPA Tripel tonight, or I could try mixing a Corne with a La Fin du Monde for a 100% domestic interpretation. Decisions, decisions.

Happen to be drinking a Green Flash Le Freak as I read this. Coincidence?
