I put away about $500 or so US early last year, but with the exchange rate in the crapper it's awfully tempting to take some of that money out.

If you are a regular speculator/trader, then yes. But for the average Joe like you and I they are never going to care. I don't know a single person who reports forex gains on their tax return. Sort of like that other conversation on BT about waiters reporting their income from tips...

One big difference is Stone (/their agent) is investing to bring in draught listings which none of the above ever did. A big question mark in my mind is if the beers can be priced competitively for people to buy.

You hit the nail on head. They would be very expensive with the dollar at par and many analysts expect the Canadian dollar to keep falling. As for draught, TBS delivery is a smart choice from a cost perspective as the other 3 options are looking for outrageous fees for bringing in new brands. But because they are using TBS I wonder if some of the bars currently boycotting TBS will reconsider their policy.

I could be wrong but my bet is that people will certainly buy some initially but I am not sure it will be sustainable. Most of the big name ,high priced ,US craft 6 pack bottle skus have not been able to meet the minimum volume criteria to maintain listings at LCBO.

I could also be wrong but I think Stone will be qualitatively different than others, the brand has a different appeal that's sustaining and broad, so assuming they can supply the volume and afford to sell it here with our bad Loonie at an acceptable price I think the beer will move.

On the other hand if it's getting time to take a break from imports, the LCBO now knows there's a market for great craft beer, here on Ontario. Why don't they focus more on the best of our national breweries, and avoid the hurting exchange rate? The more we support our best breweries the better they can potentially be. Any nominees for outstanding beers the LC should sell?

I didn't see where ithe event was scheduled but the most popular craft bars in London cater more to Ontario craft and refuse to use anything coming from TBS.

It was at Beertown. I had recommended it to a London-based friend, and then "poof".

According to The Beer Store website, both the IPA and Arrogant Bastard are $485 per keg.

Any guesses on what the average pint will cost? Probably safe to assume 12-14oz pours at most to keep the cost down.

Wholesale cost, then, is $8.27 per litre. Is the typical mark-up 100%? More? (I honestly don't know).

If only 100% then pints could still come in under the $10 (psychological) barrier, but I have a feeling mark-ups may be greater than that.

I also wonder, if Stone is going to have as big an impact as some of you predict (which I doubt, personally), whether pubs might use it as a bit of a loss leader, at least initially?

That price on TBS includes deposit, but wow. That's higher than I heard previously.

I think it's already on tap at Bier Markt but their beer is always expensive. Volo tweeted some kegs so we'll see what the prices start coming in at.
