Hello again, GMonk -
If you remember, I'm the guy who accidentally left a small bag of goodies behind at Premier back in early August. My coworker - Vanessa - was going to drop in last weekend to pick the bag up (I gave her an envelope with my original receipt in it) but unfortunately she got sick and couldn't travel. She says she should be able to drop in before the end of September.
Any chance you can hold the bag a little longer for me/her? I'm hoping to get her to pick up a few things at the same time .....
- Harry
(thank you for your help)

Saturday, November 5th will be Vendor Days at Premier. We are inviting our distributors to display their products and do some sampling. This is storewide so there will be representatives from our grocery, deli and housewares department as well as the beer department. We have a limited amount of space in our cafe so we will have four reps. Unibroue, Southern Tier, Ithaca brewing Company, and Beer Lovers (they carry many of our specialty imports) Like I said, it is storewide so come and enjoy many of the products that we carry.

Thanks again to the extremely helpful GMONK @ Premier - always ask for him and you won't be sorry - yum! several more bottles of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout from "the back."
FYI everyone, I brought 54 bottles back with me this time (12 bombers, the rest regular size), mostly singles, and when I said I "bought some six-packs" of beer, she handed me the dreaded yellow card and asked me to pull over. The inspection officers looked over my haul in the hatchback, counted the bottles and, after determining they were mostly singles (I assume meaning I wasn't "importing", it was obviously for personal consumption), asked me to estimate the amount spent (I was pretty accurate) and sent me in to pay up.
They marked "2 24's" of beer and I was assessed at what is evidently the standard rate for beer (ABV doesn't matter) - 27.5% (which is duty+GST+PST). Which in my case came to about $54 Canadian.
Which is, while irritating, not too much for product unavailable in Ontario.
I'm VERY happy right now ....

Is this the key? When I was a kid it was common belief that the best way to get across the border with the least amount of fuss was to line up for a male border guard.HogTownHarry wrote:... she handed me the dreaded yellow card ...
It's politically-incorrect to think/say it today, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there's some truth to it. My observation is that guys are more likely to let something slide than would the ladies.
Guess what? I got a fever. And the only prescription ... is more cowbell!

No, you always need to pick a border guard with blonde hair...wha???
Luck of the draw...some will wave you through, others won't. Gender doesn't factor in my experience. Besides, weaving your car from lane to lane as you squint out the windshield trying to spy someone who LOOKS like they might wave you through is a hell of a lot more likely to have the opposite effect. Don't go crazy and bring back ten cases of beer, report it to the guard (estimate..."a few dozen", or "a couple of cases") and...hope for the best. I'm guessing I've had to pay the duty about 30% of the time.
Now if a Bartoweler becomes a border guard...let me know and I'll definitely keep an eye out for them!

That's because beer is a source of pleasure. Women hate just letting that one go by.Mississauga Matt wrote:Is this the key?
