There was plenty at Summerhill when I went by today. I grabbed two cases and I believe they have at least eight left.

Ok I had the john by today.......

I can appreciate it for what it is but ....

I didn't like it. I dont want to drink the second bottle I bought. (I will)

Too much stale coffee aroma just didn't work for me. Im not saying its a bad beer it is quite good for its style. But I really dont like it.

Seriously, if Perry made a beer everybody liked it would it be that great?

Fuggles,
I'll tell you what. Keep that bottle cellared for me, and I will pay you a 5% rate of return. Smaller of course than you would see from any other investment, but, you already spent the money..

I will pick it up in 6 years, and give you $2.90. That was calculated by the Royal Bank, so please don't blame me if the math is off.

Just wondering how much input Perry had for the John By Imperial Stout. This older posting seems to indicate that his input was minimal. Regardless, he is still the source of a significant number of great beers in Ontario.

Fuggles,

Where did you find the beer in the Peterborough area? I'm asking because I live in Port Hope and have not seen it in any of the nearby LCBOs. Any help with regards to my search would be grand. That's right, grand!

It's finally here in the KW area!

I must say, this is probably one of my absolute favourite beers I've ever had (so far). I guess since it's my first Imperial Stout, I'm prone to be pretty impressed, but it still seems like an amazing brew regardless.

I only bought 3 bottles for now, but I can't wait to get more because this is something I'm going to want to have plenty of to be stored away, so I can enjoy it whenever I feel like!

My input to this years Impy was limited to the recipe. Ancil Hartman, the brewer at Heritage did the brewing. I really like the result and Ancil and Ron deserve the credit.

Well, amazing job Ancil and Ron, and all of Scotch Irish/Heritage Brewing!

For those of you who care about this sort of thing, my man John By is already the second-highest rated beer in Ontario (after Denison's) on ratebeer.com.

That's a pretty sweet accomplishment. It also means we in Onterrible have something to potentially trade with our U.S. cousins!

I agree Perry, It's a good rich malty Impy with all the requisite Imp stout flavors and aromas and it satisfies... but very drinkable because the ABV is down around 7%...I can take a few of these were as wellington gets you wobbly after a few...this would make an excellent on-tap Impy....Publicans don't have to worry so much about stewing their patrons before they go home.

They did a good job on this.

I've always wondered why this most popular of micro styles (Imperial stout) has not been more commonly produced by Ontario brewers and readily available locally....porters we got coming out the ying yang but specialty stouts are uncommon...particularly in bottled form for home consumption. ..It always amazes me how many specialty stouts are available on the shelves in Quebec when I make a veer run there...milk stouts, smoked stouts Imperials, spiced stouts, fruit stouts, coffee and cocoa stouts....but here...next to nothing...maybe some Mill Street coffee or St. Ambroise if you're lucky to have a TBS that stocks it.

BTW I guess, if this is more than just a seasonal, you guys at Heritage will be the only brewer putting a bottled Imp on the shelves...got the market to yourselves here

The only LCBO in peterborough that ever carries anything decent is the one on lansdowne at chapters.

And for the record my second John by went down quite a bit better than the first. I guess I was just expecting something more akin to the samuel smith impy!

Expectations certainly influence your perception.

I thought the first one was almost overwhelmingly roastie (in a good way), but not all that bitter. The second one (a couple days later) had a good bitterness and a little more hop flavour.

Awesome brew. I picked up another 8.
