I don't make it in to Toronto often, but the stars were in alignment today and I managed to make it to Volo for a Westy 12. I actually got the privilage of being the first to order it at about 4:05 (to say I was keen would be modest).

To be honest, this beer defies description. It is so incredibly complex you could probably drink it a thousand times and find something new about it every time. I didn't do a side-by-side with Rochefort 10, but I'd rate it higher. Truely world class.

It's going for $35 a bottle at Volo and worth every penny.......and I got to keep the bottle cap 8)

Yeah, its pretty good stuff. I like the fact that it is so very balanced. And I hope you were allowed to keep the empty bottle as well as the cap.

Does anyone have any idea on how much supply there is?

I've been told that the few locations that got this in, only have about 3 cases each.

I think St. Veronus in Peterborough got one case, and that Roland is saving it for a special occasion. I suspect it's come in under $30 when he does dig it out of the cellar.

Wow - $35 is way cheaper than I was expecting. What kind of glass was it served in?

One ounce shot glass. :D (just kidding).

Brandy Snifter.

I felt quite regal sitting in the front window of Volo with the sun shining in, drinking Westy 12 from a snifer and looking down my nose at all the Bud Lite Lime drinking pesants passing by (joking......but only slightly. haha)

Boney, glad you made the Westy pilgrimage as I did the same at 5pm (and I tool kept the cap... hey I wanted to sneak away the bottle... and I'm not the first to think of that little shenanigan.)

I agree it's meaningless to describe the beer the very first time. Other batches will vary too. Some beers are not a destination but a journey.

More importantly, it was nice chatting with a number of you folks out on the Volo patio, and I look forward to seeing you around. Cheers!

Anyone know how long they expect the Westy to last?

Volo got 6 cases and for the most part nobody is really buying it yet, from what I heard when I was there this weekend. BB received 10 cases as well, so for anyone needing to save up their allowance I suspect you have some time.

If there is still some around for my b'day the 2nd week of July maybe I'll pull the trigger then!

I wouldn't go as far as saying "Nobody is really buying it". Volo sold a whole case of 24 on Friday night alone. That's pretty good going, wouldn't you say?

Can't wait too see their bargain price! :D Seriously it's cool that there is some Westy around Toronto, and I recommend the experience even if a bottle is shared for economy's sake, as half a bottle would still be plenty for a good tasting.

Worth every penny? Come on... All things considered, maybe worth every penny so that you can have the pleasure of trying it once in your life... but in and of itself it is in no way worth $35 for a single bottle. I tried it for 10 euros when I was in Brussels.... and I wouldn't even say it's worth 10 euros. It's an amazing beer, but lets be realistic here.

If the brewery all of a sudden decided it was going to make shit ton of the stuff and go wildy commercial (which it never will), and they tried to sell the stuff for $35 a bottle... how long do you think that would fly?

I'm just saying...
