I only ask, cause it's my go to beer, mostly because it's on tap just about anywhere worthwhile in Ottawa, and a great gateway beer for those on the fence about what to order, and a good way to talk most friends out of a Keiths, or other crap.
One thing I have found is a very slight difference in taste if I get it from a store that wasn't keeping it refridgerated. Seems like a fairly delicate style that doesn't take much to throw it off.
Corn/Veggies is generally a big DMS problem. I find its pretty common in Ontario brews. But in the spirit of the thread, I decided to drink some pints of homebrewed Dubbel
A Black Velvet in a pewter mug, composed like this: 2 parts Amsterdam Porter, one part Singha Stout, and 3 of Peller Ice Cuvee sparkling wine, which uses ice wine as the dosage. Also, the Peller is the rose version (happened to be what I had).
I found that the wine taste predominated, so I added some more Singha, and I find now the balance very good. Kind of like a strong cherry porter. Got to watch this one, the ABV is up there.
Gotta ease back on beer till I get better - but had laughs re-reading my old Trafalgar reviews on RB. This one I'm basically speechless:
(SMOKED OATMEAL STOUT) This stout was really not bad, and really not smoky, not particularly roasty or terrifically malty... the bomber was finished before I knew it. Hmmh! Nothing wrong here but hardly boasting much character. St Amby and Sinha kick this beer’s ass pretty hard actually - 3/5
I should mention too I saw a couple of days ago Czechvar draft at Quail & Firkin, of the Firkin chain of pubs, on the Rosedale stretch of Yonge. The beer was in first-class condition with that white wine-like, complex finish Czechvar gets at its best (especially on draft I find). Nice to see it getting wider distribution in town. It reminds me in many ways of Riesling, the beer world's answer.

My local store has it on the shelf. If I come across it again at a store that keeps it refridgerated, I will give it another try.

Thats what I was thinking too. I've read that DMS causes that kind of off flavour in beer. I just don't consider myself "expert" enough to say "this beer has a DMS" problem, when for all I know, there could be something else that causes that kind of problem.
I'm trying Aecht Schlenkerla rauchbier marzen for the first time. Im liking it so far. aroma is very in your face with campfire, jerky and smoked meat(maybe bacon). Taste is much more balanced, with a little sweetness in there that I didnt expect. love the smoky finish. Had my last Duggans #9 before it.
Finally tried the Neustadt Lager for the first time. Can definitely taste the distinct Neustadt flavour in there, supposedly from their water. Some interesting fruitiness in this one... I enjoyed it.
