Had another great beer from Shorts last nigt. Black Licorice Lager was delicious.

i am consistently more impressed with this brewer than I thought. Especially since the TM 750mls are reasonably priced at Provigo. They have the Maibock (8%) at Only Café right now, as well as DDC Soliste De Printemps (Maple Scotch Ale.)

I may just put that TM Weizenbock in my fridge on Friday (and/or the 2009 Baltic Porter...) I have heard all TM 'ales' use a lager yeast, which seems odd, but who cares.

The Noire came from the mixed 12 pack of basic stuff, and was probably the highlight of the bunch (the Blanche, a hefeweizen, was pretty good, but the Rousse and Blonde were pretty bland.)

Their 'signature' beers or whatever are consistently awesome. Tried the Kellerbier recently and it was great. A forewarning though, the Baltic Porter is quite a bit better than the Weizenbock, which is rather sweet and lacks much of a spicy weizen characteristic.

Granite's Hopping Mad, which was way better than it was last week (it may have actually been the dry hopped bitter last week). Shared a root beer float for dessert.

Now I'm sipping my first, real, homebrew. Based on a Chimay red clone, with a little peat-smoked malt. Sort of a Belgian Scotch ale, and at 6 years it's tasting good.

i'm enjoying the 11% Weizenbock very much right now, thank you - extremely grapey in a pinot noir kind of way, port-like and nothing like a Schneider und Sohn product at all...

damn I wish I had ordered more Nøgne Ø Imperial, it is a fine stout!

I had the Strawberry Shortscake on tap at the brewpub a few weeks ago it was pretty good the girlfriend really enjoyed it. I still have some Black Licorice, just message me if you want some.

I guess that was its downfall for me. Glad you enjoyed it. Perhaps I'll pick up a bottle of the more recent batch and give it another shot, without hoping it'll taste like a strong Aventinus.

Had a few Creemore Kellerbier last night, and finished up with a Stone Imperial Russian Stout thanks to Zuma. It was pretty awesome!

Tonight it'll be some rare swill from Quidi Vidi Brewing in Newfoundland. Anybody tried the QV lager or 1892 Traditional Ale before?

Yes. The Lager is pretty dreadful, but the Ale is OK, albeit kinda boring. Sort of similar to Big Rock Trad if I recall correctly. It was even available at the LCBO at one point.

Thanks for the info Greg. I personally enjoy Trad Ale so maybe I'll like this East Coast version? My only experience with Quidi Vidi has been a bottle of the Kriek that was way past its best before date. It tasted like maraschino cherry soda. Hopefully these other ones will turn out better!
