Amen on the WWS. It tastes like cheap, bottom of the barrel port with an added shot of cheap, bottom of the barrel vodka. Granted, I haven't had any of it much older than a year or two, so perhaps that would tone it down.

Had a taste of a fellow homebrewer's gruit tonight, uncarbonated before it gets kegged. Very nice and balanced considering the lack of hops. Some cidery taste and some spice like corriander, but you could taste the beer in there too.

Alley Kat Coffee Porter on cask - with added coffee grounds for extra flavour.

Real nice effort, great brewed coffee flavour, almost had a black IPA touch to it with the hopping. As it warmed it took on a black coffee with one sugar flavour.

Reminded me very much of Viggo's coffee porter/stout he brewed early last year.

The flavours are ok I guess, but it was pretty tame compared to my friend's DIPA that we also tried. I have never been overly impressed by anything from Phillips, their stuff is ok, but nothing special.

I'm not a huge fan of DFH, their image and hype is often more impressive than their beer. I do love their Palo Santo Marron and Indian Brown, and I enjoy Midas Touch and Raison D'Extra, but nothing else has really impressed me. I have only tried one bottle of 120, and it was sour.

Agreed on the Mephistopheles too.

I pulled out a 4 year old bottle this summer. It was just as big of a letdown. There just isn't a whole hell of a lot going on in that beer, especially for something that big.

We also tried my 19% stout, and we were damn near bowled over with flavours, as compared to the WWS and Mephistopeles. It is drinking damn nice, especially considered it was brewed 6 just months ago, only the oak character is a little raw at the moment, everything else is working quite well.

Tonight I'm drinking another imperial stout I made 6 months ago. But this one is only 12%.

A pint of Cheshire Valley Mild, then a few more of Black Oak Nutcracker on cask at The Vic. Sublime.

I'll tell you what I'm not drinking tonight. I'm not drinking Pliny the Elder on tap at the Tornado in San Francisco. Instead, I'm in a Travel Lodge in Vancouver because of missed airline connections due to weather. Fucking Canadian winters.
