Muskoka Mad Tom IPA
JesseJesseM wrote:So I check the beer store website, they list it. I check which stores in my area have it, and they give me a google map thing with the location of every beer store in KW. Somewhat suspicious, I check out my local (walk-in style) BS which usually brings in new stuff. Nothing. No Mad Tom. Guess I shouldn't be surprised as the BS is of course the single greatest waste of space in the history of the universe.
KW in general has been really sucking acceptional ass lately in regards to beer. The LCBO's don't seem to be aware yet that there is a summer seasonal release, and I doubt we'll be seeing a whole lot of Rogue. I'll have to talk with the beer guy at the largest store in town that I frequent. He's usually pretty good, just needs to be made aware of the existence of things so he can order them. But I'm still grumpy and want my freaking Mad Tom. I almost got to go to the pig roast launch for it too...
The BS at King and Victoria has Old Tom!? I stopped in for the helluvit and the guy said "Yeah it's back there somewhere" It took him forever to find it, I think it was buried beneath the kegs of Coors Light, a colourful rainbow of Rickards products and skids of Laker ... but it's there!!!

Haha, good way to put it. Thanks for the info, I'll have to check in with them when I get the chance.NRman wrote:JesseJesseM wrote:So I check the beer store website, they list it. .....and federal politics has exactly what to do with exclusive Provincial monopolies???velovampire wrote: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/#/146
Why are you surprised?

Aventinus rules!
Called the Uptwon Waterloo Lickbow today (usually the best store in town, and the most easily accessible for me). Apparently the summer release stuff, Rogue release stuff, and Canuck Pale Ale are on order and still haven't arrived. KW and Cambridge have been entirely without even some f****ing Canuck Pale Ale whilst seemingly the entire rest of the province has had at least some (LCBO search turns up every major area except KW)(or Windsor, although nothing ever seems to show up in Windsor
).
I hate to complain so much but God-f***ing-damnit, nothing bothers me more than feeling left out
.
Does Great Lakes just hate KW? Devil's Pale Ale has been hard to find lately too...

@JesseM: I'm in Cambridge and to add insult to injury I saw Great Lakes Products in Winnipeg when I was there last week along side Garrison IIPA!
Go figure.

To be fair Jesse, the Crazy Canuck has had very sketchy availability. We had 2 cases at my store for the long weekend in May, and we have not been able to get any since, despite ordering many more cases.JesseM wrote:Called the Uptwon Waterloo Lickbow today (usually the best store in town, and the most easily accessible for me). I suspect perhaps the brewery could not keep up with demand? We have certainly been trying get more, as it sold so fast, but we cannot get more. We've been told that "more will be on the way", but we'll likely de-list it now. Why wait for a beer to show up, while an empty shelf is screaming at you? We'll likely fill it with another craft.
Also, I do not know if it was a forced product. If it wasn't forced, your local doesn't have to carry it. For them, it may be just another product begging for listing amongst the hundreds of others that are waiting in the cue.
As for the Mad Tom, why even sweat it.......you aren't missing much. You've had that beer dozens of times under different monikers.
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!
Picked up Mad Tom at the beer store @ 3rd. Line/Upper Middle Road. I couldn't find it on the display shelves. When I asked a staffer if it was in, he was uncertain on whether it had arrived. He did a search in the storeroom and I spotted it on the top shelf. Oddly, he handed me my sixer but didn't add any to the display.
I had a quick chat about Mad Tom with the young lad at the checkout. He likes it and loves the Muskoka Cream Ale. He would like to see more micros in the BS.
There's hope for the future.

All good points Len, but keep in mind KW didn't get any Canuck, not a single damn store got any. And we still only have a few bottles of Celt Golden Ale from the summer release, and nothing else. Wednesday is when a lot of the stores get new product so I'll hope that tomorrow may bring more beer...SteelbackGuy wrote:

Thanks for the offer but I managed to pick some up today from the BS as King and Victoria. I've been biking around town all day so I'm exhausted enough to enjoy almost anything right now, but this beer is absolutely fantastic. This is exactly the kind of beer I want all summer in copious amounts. I really can't see where the comments are coming from that this is another pedestrian, mediocre OCB effort, but to each their own.jimmay wrote:Having my first tonight too. Good, but definitely not outstanding. Jesse you can have some of mine. PM me.
Muskoka is in my top 3 favourite Ontario breweries.

To be fair, I don't think anyone is calling it mediocre or pedestrian, just that it needs some work, but otherwise a welcome addition.JesseM wrote:Thanks for the offer but I managed to pick some up today from the BS as King and Victoria. Picked up a couple six packs at the Beer Store near Merivale Mall in Ottawa.
Liked it a lot. A typical (but very nice) hop profile that is very evident from the nose, but then a nice bright biscuity malt flavour balances things out in the flavour. Very refreshing.
It's no Two Hearted, but not everything needs to be.
