LCBO Summer Release

The LCBO does not determine retail pricing...the supplier and agent do based upon the price they quote so if Dogfish sold for $2.00 it's because we priced it that way and if UK ales sell for $3.50, again, that's how they priced. The LCBO rarely gets involved in retail pricing, especially for seasonal releases. Sure there's a pricing formula, but's applied to everyone and the only real variable is the size of the brewery as there is a sliding scale of markups based upon litres per case and it can range from $0.55 per case for 24 x 355ml of DFH 60 from a very small production brewery to $3.93 for a case of 12 x 500ml UK beers from a large brewrey like Fuller's or Shepherd Neame.
FYI, if DFH 60 were to come back as either a seasonal or permanent listing, it'll probably be $2.25 as Dogfish has raised their prices.

Great pricing on the DFH Peter.

I like the Fullers and some other UK imports but at their pricing , not enough to buy any more than 2 or 3 at a time. DFH 60 Is priced where buying a case at a time isn't painful at all.....if they do bring it back I hope they at least double the quantity.

The Belhaven blueberry is synthetic with a lame weakly malted pilsner base and it sucks for the sale price ...the honey dew is quality ale and one of the best malted ales ( despite detractions form alpha oil addicts) I have tasted. You may have a different opinion on taste but that does not detract from the fact the fuller's price is justified by ingedients and the Belhaven is not. What Belhaven did with this blueberry beer was akin to a steelback trick of using a sub quality weak pilsner beer as a base and flavoring it with artificial flavor adjuncts.

DFH is a new extreme beer and great within it's own category... dripping with both hop oils and malts but well balanced though slightly hop biased, but it certainly cannot be compared to the mild malty golden session ales of the UK....freight train vs mini van equivilency.

All these beers have to be judged by what they are...not by what they are NOT ( rant mode off)

Rant or attack Pootz? Anyone that dared disagree with you is an alpha oil addict? I'm so sorry I tolerated the Belhaven and hated the Fullers (I'm in the minority on the Belhaven, and keep it mind I only tolerated it, but there's a few of us who have spoken up on our dislike on the Fullers); this seems to have really gotten under your skin.

Don't worry, I for one won't dare voice an opinion that might disagree with you in the future; it sounds like you have a lock on the absolute what is good what is bad in the our little beer universe. Anyone that likes hoppy beers cannot possibly like the session ales of the UK I guess (which I've said time again I love by the way, in case you have missed it - in fact, I can honestly claim to like well made examples of just about every beer style I have ever tried). I recommend you keep up this little me against the world mentality a few folks have on this board have including yourself (subtle ale/lager lovers must stand up against those who dare embrace hops and God forbid "extreme" beers! No surrender!

This forum used to be full of honest passionate opinions, like what you have expressed here. The difference is it was ok to disagree, which you seem to have a problem with (honestly, re-read some of your absolute statements in your rant, they're ridiculously pompous). I for one am extremely tired of it. I love the forum, having lingered for two years and then contributing for another two, and I have met some awesome beer lovers through it who I now consider good friends. But I won't be posting any more (not that I expect this to matter, in fact, I know a few of you will be pleased

and you can’t take all the credit pootz, you just set the final nail and gave me a hammer). Greg keeps the news section up to date, which is something the site was lacking and is now a great feature, so checking there should suffice.

Gotta say the Honeydew and the Blueberry were both highly disappointing.

Although the Goldings Ale wasn't too bad. It's going to make a great beer to drink while sitting around the pool this summer.
