I think you're right, Lost River stays away from any herbal-mineral funk or sour complexity you might get in some Baltic Porters (Okocim & Zywiecz for example - Sinebrychoff is also way out there with smoky roast.) Bellwoods' does have the full rounded rich profile and chocolate/dark fruit I love. It might also be interesting if it also had a bit of lactic sourness to it or a hint more earthiness. Baltic Porter is a style that has been made differently all over Europe. Maybe with all the freaky local recipes there's no definitive version of Baltic or even brewing method (it can be top- or bottom-fermented.) A 'consistently inconsistent' beer style.
