Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!
How are they ever going to know there's a demand for good seasonals if we never buy out the stock quickly and in its entirety? How will these "seasonals" be made permanently available if the LCBO don't think they'll move fast?
Jon that assumes a causal relationship between demand and supply, which in the mind of LCBO Nazis has never existed for tiny-volume seasonals like Westmalle. Nobody 'up there' cares. These seasonals are window-dressing, a token gesture to help 'justify' the LC controlling the entire market. (In reality they want it both ways - streamlined profits AND exclusive control at our expense of selection, the f-ing pigs.)
But I agree that going 'oh, let's be fair and leave lots for the next person to hoard' is defective thinking. 'Hoarding' is the only way to ensure you'll have more than a few week's supply - and ONE little case is really a bullshit amount anyway - so nobody feel bad about that! In fact grab two cases.
Yeah but at the same time if supply is gobbled up by a few Bartowelers, the circle will never widen for busting the LCBO's balls over the many issues we have with the place. Besides, mom always told you to be nice and share.
There were 250 cases of Westmalle Dubbel. Only seen 10 or so cases listed so far on the LCBO web site. I think we will all get the quantities we want if we act in the next week or so as they make it into more stores.
I will be buying 10 cases total. Got two yesterday in Pickering, got no problem driving 1/2 hour for more. I won't be touching downtown which sounds like where most of you are from. There is always some store in Downsview or Mississauga that has 5+ cases with little demand. That's where I'll hit. There should be plenty of places to buy this in the next few days.
Expiry date on bottles is May 30, 2008. I shall be buying enough to last me comfortably until then as I have no idea if the LCBO will be getting any more any time soon.
As an aside they have an interesting new diamond shaped label instead of rectangular.
My 3 Westmalle glasses have been collecting dust for too long. Time to put them back into regular service!
Good luck to all!

They've got it at the Queenquay as of about 20 minutes ago. I saw a couple of cases sitting on the floor next to their seasonal selection. They've also got the Rogue Dead Guy and St. Peter's Strong Ale in.
Good thing I got from there six each of Westmalle & Rogue and one of Peter's ahead of that posting... Lots still there, hopefully for more than just a few people.
Some jerk just grabbed all 24 bottles of Westmalle from the Waterloo LC today I hear this batch is everything it used to be and then some, is there more to come?

The same jerk that grabbed the 24 from Waterloo should notice that there are 47 in Kitchener and 72 in Guelph according to the LCBO web site this morning if that jerk wants more..............

I haven't yet tried mine. (Got some work to do and beer makes me very counterproductive.) I hope you're right! I'll try some tonight.
The westmalle hasn't moved from my store in a couple of days. It just sits there.
In stead the Celtic stout and the Dead Guy are selling the best, and I might know the reason.
I think the Dead Guy is selling to University students who want to try something Novel, and add the bottle to their dorm bottle collections. (Anyone who knows me, know the store I work at is in the heart of student housing).
I credit the Celtic stout sales to guiness drinkers who think they are buying an exact copy of guiness.
ANyway, the westmalle, burton, and st peters haven't moved for 2 days, which means more for me now I guess.
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!
i just returned from the lcbo at 7+woodbine. there's stuff on the shelves that isn't in the online inventory (usually the other way around). i grabbed some of the celtic stout, dead guy, burton porter, sam smith nut brown, and westmalle.
they also have a little sign up for the st peters strong ale, but it's on a pile of st peters english ale (about 3/4 of which have turned a cloudy milky colour).
the westmalle was also just sitting in a random shelf (i think it was labeled as aventinus). i grabbed the 4 that were there.
Hit jackpot at the Queens Quay last night. The Westmalle was off the shelves, so I asked the guy at the info desk, who asked meekly, "What's that...?"
He assured me there was more coming in within the next day, but I was afraid someone else might be privy to this info. Anyway, I looked again and found a stray box underneath the seasonal beer display, so I took a couple Westies home.
The day previously, I had to get someone to hunt in the stockroom for a couple of Burtons (which I'm not crazy about). The things I do to get my fix, I tell ya...
