A friend of mine that bought some of these Chimay gift packs claims there is no fleur-de-lis etched in the glass.

A shame. One of things that gives the glass its character.
I guess they wanted to reduce costs in this gift pack.
Still an awesome deal though.

I picked up the Chimay gift pack as well - there's definitely no fleur de lis.
i didn't even realize that there was supposed to be one until you mentioned it.

That really pisses me off...

A Duvel tulip gets that stream of bubbles, not from any etching but from the round bottom shape. Pour one and see! It really makes for a 'Devil' of a beer with that dancing 'flame' of rising carbonation in the middle.

My Duvel tulip is etched, and I believe all are. My Chimay goblet from last year's gift pack (purchased in Nova Scotia) is also etched, but it's very subtle and easy to miss. I didn't think it was a fleur-de-lis, though, but I could be mistaken.

I had two Duvel snifter glasses. One had the fancy Duvel "D" etched in the bottom the other had a plain circle. The "D" one broke recently unfortunately. I got one from a gift pack and another in a store in Holland.
Don't know which was which.

Perhaps the etching is out of fashion with the Chimay glasses and they just stopped doing it. No other trappist glasses have etching in them.

My Duvel glasses (from gift packs I gave myself) are pretty much the one I reach for most of the time. "Open" chalices don't do the same justice to aroma.

*** UPDATE *** - ah yesss, a little 'O' etched on the bottom. How clever.

I just got a whack of the Chimay Gift Packs.

Instead of the fleur-de-lis etched in the bottom they have a less pronounced etching of the Chimay shield. The glass is a bit thiner and the silver around the rim is only about half the size. The new one is very slightly larger.

I prefer the old one I have but this one is quite worthy for the price. So long as the shape is the same, there is an etching in the centre and it is silver rimmed it is worthy and should have the same effect on the beer.

A Sinha Stout, a Sinha Lager, and a glass. I haven't seen one myself yet, but I've heard that the glass is very nice.
I bought a Sinha gift pack, and the glass is nothing to write home about. Its a standard tulip with a Sinha logo poorly screen printed on it. The lager was even more forgettable. The stout, of course, was excellent.

I grabbed a few Schneider Weisse packs, nice.

The glasses aren't too bad quality - all beer glassware seems to be of varying standards, so you don't always get Bohemian Crystal grade beerware. Some of my older glasses seem more shiny, rigid and finely shaped, but these Weizen glasses look good.

The beer inside retails at 5 or 6 bucks so the glass portion is well worth the few extra bucks. Weizen glasses are important for the style, and the Schneider logo is properly silkscreened.

Turn & inspect each glass because some have small bottle scratches.

I grabbed a couple of the Historic scotch ales because I love them..a Chimay because I have never had a Chimay chalice and another Erdinger to get the special edition weiss glass.....may take a look at the schneider as well.

Seems like a few items on the Fall release and the gift packs release are nowhere to be seen. I recall the belhaven wee heavy was in the fall relase, and the dekoninck amber, and neither one every made it to LCBO shelves. Now the budels gift pack is MIA. All the other gift packs are out now, and alot of stores have run out of them! i was at Summerhill just a few days ago, and i grabbed the last Schneider gift pack, and coudlnt find anymore of the biere du boucanier gift packs, and the exclusive belgian ales gift packs. Nice to see they are selling very well.
