+ 1

Preferred the Grolsch by a wide margin.

The * cough * Chapeau * beers might not be bad but I'll open them with my sister.

Jenlain BiƩre de Printemps - was a decent refresher.

Cono Sur Viognier - Chilean white, VERY good summer drinker for $10

Cono Sur VISION Pinot Noir - terrible vintage, very poor value Chilean for $16.
I returned a few bottles!

This German Pinot is surprisingly great and only $15. Sleeper bargain.

Thanks for the feedback. After your rec last week I was ready to buy a few bottles, but it sounds like I should give it a miss.

Anyway, beerwise, I've been drinking a whole bunch of Nova Scotia beers all weekend, which I spent in sunny Halifax. The pick of the bunch was an IPA made by the Rogue's Roost brewpub, and the best bottled beer I had was the Garrison Winter Weizen, which has a wonderfully complex flavour similar to Aventinus. I've brought a dozen bottles back, including the Imperial Pale Ale, which won the Canadian beer of the year award. I tried a sample size at the brewery, and I'm really looking forward to cracking this big boy open.

Right now I'm going to celebrate a hot summer's night with a... barleywine. Flying Dog Horn Dog. Picked up a 4-pack while I was away, so fingers crossed its a good one!

Had a Grolsch Weizen to celebrate two great events today:

1. Holland's 3-0 thrashing of Italy.
2. My Dad's 50th anniversary (to the day) of arriving in Canada from Holland.

Oranje Boven !!

No luck on that one. I visited Premier Wines and the brewery itself, but couldn't see it anywhere. We enjoyed the visit so much that we're planning a road trip through the maritimes at some point in the future, so maybe I can have a second chance at finding it!

I thought Premier Wines was a very decent store. The selection is fairly small, but its extremely high quality, and I'd be happy to see some of those beers available in Ontario.

2005 Chateau Larou FRONTON.

Very nice dry red with the dark, classy Negrette as the main grape variety. Yes the whole bottle, and no typos. A good dry French red really cleans out the plumbing, as they say...

God damn I love great French wine! If you see a wine from Fronton next spring buy it...

That's a fantastic choice! One of the better beers available at the beer store in my opinion.

Agree completely. I'm not sure why I've never tried this one before. I'm sad to admit that I killed the whole sixer, it was damn good.
