Ola Dubh 40 in the T-dot?
Well... So far we know that:
1) they do hold cases of stock or the ENTIRE inventory (presumably not prepaid) for licensees because they tell that right to people's faces (as if the 'status' of being a licensee were special or even relevant in an equal-access system.)
2) it is therefore NOT first-come, first-serve IF one of us arrive with cash. It shouldn't BE on the inventory if the entire stock's on hold & not for sale!
3) they do arrange SOME customre holds, but it is haphazard, and employees seem to make up 'rules' on the spot. It can work to your advantage, or against it. (I don't like paying for a flaky system with my liquor taxes, so I think we deserve to get some clarity around this.)
4) supposedly it's all good if you telephone in advance and reserve, but some staff will flake out totally here also - not even trying to locate the stock, or else refusing to hold it. Some stores do make the effort to help you & that works really well, when it happens.
5) you almost have to know who you are dealing with to ensure getting service, and they had better like you. Glad-handing is really effective, I'm sad to say, so try it.
Perhaps I'll shoot an email to LC HQ, or talk to some reliable staff, about official LCBO policy regards holding stock. How bout it Len? I had no problem holding two cases of Peche without a deposit, and yet other stores give grief over holding 1 or two bottles of Ola Dubh!
It's quite inane that rules seem to be made up by the spot, often by floor staff you would not sense to be particularly reliable. "Lunatics are running the asylum!" goes the old saying.

This was my experience with the Dieu du Ciel products. Everything worked out fine. I bought what bottles I wanted, the rest went on the shelf and sold out in a day or two. I guess I'm just lucky to frequent a store that has semi-competent employee's.SteelbackGuy wrote:So, what to do is to ask the store manager to check if a product is on order, or has been ordered. If it has, they can fill out a little sheet that has your info on it, and they will save bottles for you. When the load comes in with the product, they match the slips up with incomig product.
Despite this, I have absolutely no hope of getting the 12 or the 40, as it was apparently a hassle to get the DDC stuff sent to this little-known backwater referred to as Kitchener-Waterloo (except then the stock of Corne du Diable sky-rocketed, like the rest of the province was just trying to get rid of it and dumped it here.) And I actually don't even really care. If it was something as equally ludicrously limited, and I was dying to try I'd probably just trade for it, or make the trip up the 401.

This sounds like excellent fodder for a Toronto Star Food Column investigative reportBelgian wrote:Well... So far we know that:
