Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!
it's not on the website, but draak is out at the rideau/king edward location as well as one of the nogne's. (I don't know why all of the series wouldn't be shipped at the same time)
I wish I had known this two weeks ago when I drank my van keizer. It was so sweet I found it disgusting. It was like someone had poured a bag of sugar into my beer. It was practically undrinkable for me at this point.
Well I liked the deep raisin-y fruit. Tempted to open another - these are an amazing deal. Break the bank and spend another seven bucks to age one.
If anyone doesn't like the Cuvee van de Keizer now, I'm inclined to suggest that they return any other bottles. I have some approaching six years old; they're still very sweet, very rich, and with very little carbonation. I like them, but they're dangerously close to being cloying. IMO, Gouden Carolus is far superior, and ages beautifully.
Remember, too, that these were brewed in February. I suspect the yeast is not particularly alcohol-tolerant, and has pretty much done all it's going to do by this point. Expect the flavours to come together and round out, but that's about it. Like I said earlier, or in another thread, this beer doesn't really age well, even though everything suggests it should. That's my $0.02.

Me too - sweet, yes, but found it quite good. I'll age two for a year and see what they do.

Although I also wish these beers were here (more so the Renaissance Porter) - to be fair, Samichlaus and Jewbelation are part of the Winter release, not the Holiday release. Winter has literally not even started yet.
Having some post-Christmas releases makes things a bit easier on the wallet as well.
A shark on whisky is mighty risky. A shark on beer is a beer engineer.
now that I've started tracking some of these beers I am really surprised how little each LCBO gets. My local Ottawa Flagship store only got 1 case of Draak. All it takes is one person to go in and buy all 24 bottles, and it's gone..
These beers have arrived to warehouse, but do not expect them on the shelves till January. The LCBO does not deliver to stores after a certain date in December.

OK. Denver Dave shared a 6-year-old bottle that was a lot more balanced and complex than a fresh one:
Very aromatic - bready and fruity with acidity prevalent. Tastes smoothly sweet with rounded fruit tones and some dry sourness lingering after.
