1985

I'm putting out a longshot... But I didn't have the foresight when I was born to start stocking bottles from my birth year.

Does anyone have, or know of, a bottle of beer, wine, port, or spirit that was either bottled in, or produced in 1985 that is unopened and potentially still delicious they'd be willing to trade/sell?

I'm trying to find something by mid April.

I'm happy to discuss equitable trades or cost if anyone has anything good.

Thanks!

The LCBO has a magnum of 1985 Dom for only 5799.95.

http://foodanddrink.ca/lcbo-ear/lcbo/pr ... ber=308957

On a more reasonable scale, the LCBO has a couple of 30 year old ports:

http://foodanddrink.ca/lcbo-ear/lcbo/pr ... ber=540252
http://foodanddrink.ca/lcbo-ear/lcbo/pr ... ber=250795

Although those technically might have been barrelled before 1985.

Ola Dubh makes a 30 year, if you want to go the beer route. You might be able to find it in Buffalo or something.

Thanks Craig - I've been thinking about that Ramos Pinto - some Vintages guys have said very nice things about it. I think its a good plan B. Still hoping for a Spirit or beer.

The Dom.... Mayyyybe a bit pricey. haha

And good call on the Ola Dubh - didn't even think of that, and I have one in my cellar!

Cheers

The 2 30 Year Tawny's aren't actually 30 year old juice, and were probably bottled a few years ago. It's a blend of different ages of tawny ports, which when proportioned out equal 30 years. And as 1985 was a declared vintage for port, you ain't gonna get a bottle too cheapily; around the $300.00 plus mark.

Thanks Torontoblue. If I can find an '85 vintage, I'm game

Can't see any 85 port in the LCBO.

If you have friends/family in BC or Alberta, I know there are a few bottles of Taylor Fladgate 1985 & Fonseca 1985 hanging around.

I went through a similar search a couple of years ago...but luckily at that time beer sales still existed on the Uk Ebay site....and I found a reputable seller.

Wouldn't know where to seek out old bottles of beer now though...

Hey Stephen,

I've done a similar thing in the past to get beer for myself and a friend (both 1982). Bay UK set me up nicely with some Thomas Hardy's and a Courage RIS. Not expensive by any measure.

I have an unopened bottle of 1985 Brick Anniversary Bock with the wax seal still intact. I can't vouch for how delicious it would be after 30 years of indifferent storage.

There is a guy on Beer advocate that has a thread up today about a bunch of Thomas Hardy 1985 that is available to him. He is gauging interest if he acquires the lot. Take a look and shoot him a message.
