The LCBO is now stocking Hockley Dark Traditional English Ale in a unique 1 litre bottle from Hockley Valley Brewing Co. Inc.
www.hockleybeer.ca
Here is the description on the bottle..."deep chestnut hued traditional English ale with hints of dark fruit, warm caramel, nuts, and a subtle chocalate roast finish."...

Apparently it can also now be had on tap at C'est What.

HVD is one of Ontarios most underrated brown ales. I buy it when I can but the key is finding it fresh. Fresh there are few browns I like as well as this ale. Problem with putting an unpasturized sweet ale into swing top bottles is it has a limited shelf life and the taste starts to deteriorate quickly.
I never buy it from the LCBO unless it is in their cooler. I prefer to get it from the brewery fresh when I am in the area.

I've bought 3 so far from the LCBO at Bathurst and St. Clair and they've been fine. Don't know how many they had in the inventory, but by the weekend they had sold out.

I really like this beer. Full flavour, great aroma and funky bottle. A first class effort from HVB!

How could Joey post after midnight on Nov. 23rd when it's far from midnight on the 22nd?

Wow! Thanks for the tip, Cass. And to think that for months now I have been wondering how so many Bar Towellers manage to hold a day job if they are up most of the night posting to the forum....or, for that matter, how they manage to have a (conventional) sex life. And no, that does not mean having sex at conventions.......

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

To get this old thread back on topic - I had a pint of the Hockley Dark at C'est What yesterday, and I was impressed. It's a well crafted brown, really well done, especially when compared to their bland Premium Draft.

Hockley is a good "transition" beer for your Molson pals, to the great stuff (which incidently, is a good substitute activity for that other wink-wink)
